三、阅读单选
Look around and you’ll see people busy on their smart phones. Smart phones do make our lives easier. But have you ever thought about what they mean to your eyes
According to a study, half of British people own smart phones and they spend an average(平均) of two hours a day using them. There has been a 35% increase in the number of people in the UK who suffer from shortsightedness since smart phones were introduced there in 1997.
Staring at smart phones for long time gives you dry eyes. When looking at something in the distance, your eyes automatically blink(自动眨眼) a certain number of times. However, when you look at things closer to your face, the blinking slows down. This reduces the amount of tears and causes discomfort in your eyes. Another bad habit is using smart phones in dark rooms before going to sleep. If you look at a bright screen while your pupils(瞳孔) become larger, too much light enters your eyes. This can do harm to the eyes and cause a disease called glaucoma(青光眼).
While you’re probably not going to stop using to your smart phone, there are a few things you can do to protect your eyes. Hold your phone at least 30 centimetres away from your eyes when using it. Take a break every hour and try the following: look at something at least five meters from you and then focus on the tip of your nose. Repeat this several times. It should reduce the discomfort in your eyes.

Hundreds of years ago, life was harder than it is today. People didn’t have modern machines. There was no modern medicine, either.
Life today has brought new problems. One of the biggest is pollution. Water pollution has made our rivers and lakes dirty. It kills our fish and pollutes our drinking water. Noise pollution makes us talk louder and become angry more easily. Air pollution is the most serious kind of pollution to all living things in the world.
Cars, planes and factories all pollute our air every day. Sometimes the polluted air is so thick that it is like a quilt (被状物) over a city. This kind of quilt is called smog.
Many countries are making rules to fight pollution. Factories must clean their water now before it is thrown away and they mustn’t let dirty smoke go into the air.
We need to do many other things. We can put waste things in the dustbin and not throw them on the ground. We can go to work by bus or with our friends in the same car. If there are fewer people driving, there will be less pollution.
Rules are not enough. Every person must help to fight pollution.

四、阅读回答问题
Country music is one of the most popular kinds of music in the United States today because it is about simple but strong human feelings and events-love, sadness, good times, and bad times. It tells real-life, stories and sounds the way people really talk. As life becomes more difficult to understand, it is good to hear music about ordinary people.
Country music, sometimes called country-western, comes from the traditional music of the people in the Appalachian Mountains in the eastern Unite States. Country music is also from traditional cowboy music from the west. The singers usually play guitars, and in the 1920s they started using electric guitars. At first city people said country music was low class. It was popular mostly in the South. But during World War II, thousands of Southerners went to the Northeast and Midwest to work in the factories. They took their music with them. Soldiers from the rest of the country went to army camps in the South. They learned country music. Slowly it became popular all over the country.
Today country music is also popular everywhere in the United States and Canada—in small towns and in New York City, among black and white, and among educated and uneducated people. About 1, 200 radio stations broadcast country music twenty-four hours a day. English stars sing it in British English, and people in other countries sing it in their own languages. The music that started with cowboys and poor Southerners is now popular all over the world.

53.例文:
Let’s try our best to protect the environment
Dear friends,
I’m a middle school student. My name is Li Hua. As we know, we have only one Earth. But in recent years, many disasters happened on the Earth and unusual weather appeared very often. Even worse, the COVID 19 broke out nearly all over the world in 2020. All these bad things were caused by the terrible environment, but the terrible environment was caused by humans. As students, what should we do
First, in order to protect our environment, we can give talks on how important the environment is. Second, we should save water and energy in our daily life. Third, in order to reduce air pollution, it’s better to go to school by bus, by bike or on foot. Fourth, we should divide the garbage into four kinds before putting it into the dustbins, and we should learn how to sort it. And we can reuse bags instead of plastic bags. Last but not least, no business, no killing. We all should know that wild animals are part of the environment, so we shouldn’t eat them. It’s time for us to protect wild animals.
If we all keep doing these things, I believe the environment will be better and better. Let’s try our best!
