Sanyé Mylo's eyes twinkle with excitement when he stands in the sound booth of The Record Co. in Boston, eager to bring his creation to life. With the press of a button, his latest rap track fills the room. "I didn't know spaces like this existed," says Mylo, who grew up in the low-income neighborhood of Dorchester. He is one of the young musicians who, thanks to The Record Co. , has turned his music into a full-time occupation.
Founded in 2010 by Matt McArthur, The Record Co. aims to give musicians more affordable access to the creative workspace and introduce the world of music to those who may have never considered their place in it.
McArthur understands this challenge firsthand. As a music technology student at Berklee College of Music, he was frustrated by the high costs of renting time in production studios. On average, a recording studio in Boston costs more than $100 per hour to rent.
He saw a recording studio not as a private office for a man of means but as a community center available to all. So he took out loans, collected donations and opened a studio in a tiny basement in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Slowly but steadily, McArthur expanded it and eventually rented a new property to include spaces for practice and production.
Today, The Record Co., with a full-time staff of more than 20 people, is a state-of-the art, 12,000-foot facility that can be rented for as little as $10 per hour. Each month, it receives about 1,000 reservations, and around 3,500 musicians pass through its doors. At The Record Co., the principle is clear: Music should be affordable for everyone, and so should the space for creating it. The building has been shaped not only with an ear to acoustics(音响效果)but also with an eye to ensure it is as welcoming to a musician in a wheelchair as to one who walks in with a guitar over the shoulder.
24. Why did McArthur found The Record Co.
A. To make musicians well-known. B. To make a fortune through music.
C. To persuade people to pursue music. D. To make music production affordable.
25. What does the author intend to do in paragraph 3
A. Provide some advice for musicians. B. Add some background information.
C. Summarize the previous paragraphs. D. Launch an appeal for musical creation.
26. What does the underlined word "means" in paragraph 4 mean
A. Wealth. B. Method. C. Vision. D. Determination
27. Which of the following is the best title for the text
A. Bring Boston's music to the world B. Turn music into a full-time occupation
C. A recording studio has advanced facilities D. Music belongs to everyone at The Record Co.

Wildlife conservation is the practice of protecting plant and animal species and their habitats. As part of the world's ecosystems, wildlife provides balance and stability to nature's processes. Wildlife conservation is aimed to ensure the survival of these species and educate people on living sustainably with other species.
The number of. people has grown to more than eight billion today, and it continues to rapidly grow. The economic growth endangers the habitats and existence of various types of wildlife around the world, particularly animals and plants that may be displaced for land development, or used for food or other human purposes. This threat is at top of the list and means natural resources are being consumed faster than ever by the billions of people on the planet. The introduction of invasive species from other parts of the world is another threat to wildlife. Other threats include climate change, pollution, fishing and hunting.
International organizations like the World Wildlife Fund, Conservation International, Wildlife Conservation Society and the United Nations work to support global animal and habitat conservation on many different fronts. They work with the government to establish and protect public lands, like national parks and wildlife protection areas. They help write legislation(法规), such as the Endangered Species Act(ESA)of 1973 in the United States, to protect various species. They work with law enforcement to charge those with wildlife crimes. They also promote biodiversity to support the growing human population while preserving existing species and habitats.
National Geographic Explorers, like conservation biologists Camille Coudrat and Titus Adhola, are working to slow the extinction of global species and protect global biodiversity and habitats. Environmental filmmakers and photographers, like Thomas P. Peschak, are essential to conservation efforts as well, documenting and bringing attention to endangered wildlife all over the world.

Humans have always been working Earth's land, and they also have always been studying and hoping to work the land of Mars one day.
Planetary scientist Abhilash Ramachandran at the Lunar and Planetary Science Conference reported that Martian dirt may have all the necessary nutrients for growing rice, one of humankind's most important foods. However, he emphasizes that the plant may need a bit of help to survive in perchlorate(高氯酸盐), a chemical that can be harmful to plants and has been detected on the surface of Mars.
Ramachandran says they want to send humans to Mars, but they cannot take everything there, especially food. He thinks it's going to be expensive, but growing rice there would be ideal.
Ramachandran and his colleagues grew rice plants in a Martian soil simulant(模拟物). They also grew rice in pure potting mix as well as several mixtures of the potting mix and soil simulant. All pots were watered once or twice a day. The team found rice plants did grow in the artistic dirt of Mars. However, the plants developed slighter shoots and thinner roots than the plants that grew from the potting mix and hybrid soils. The researchers also tried growing rice in soil with added perchlorate. They sourced some rice varieties—modified to stand environmental stressors like drought—and grew them in Mars-like dirt with and without perchlorate. No rice plants grew in a concentration of 3 g of perchlorate per kilogram of soil. But when the concentration was just I g per kilogram, one of the rice varieties grew both a shoot and a root, while another managed to grow a root.
The findings are encouraging, suggesting that by changing to improve with one successful modified gene, humans might eventually be able to develop a rice cultivar suitable for Mars.
32. What does Ramachandran stress about growing rice on Mars in paragraph 2
A. The challenge. B. The reason. C. The benefit. D. The purpose.
33. Why do the scientists want to plant rice on Mars
A. To purify the Martian air. B. To feed Martian explorers.
C. To test the Martian soil simulant. D. To improve the Martian soil environment.
34. What can we learn about rice plants from the experiments
A. Their weight ranged from 1 g to 3 g.
B. They stopped growing in Mars-like dirt.
C. They never developed roots in soil with perchlorate.
D. Their growth was affected by perchlorate's concentration.
35. What is the author's attitude to the research findings
A. Suspicious. B. Critical. C. Positive. D. Curious.

Michael, a 58-year-old man, lives in one of the most magical places in the world, Honolulu, Hawaii, which is known as an ideal vacation spot for most Americans. He gets to call this place home. But he has difficulty finding a regular place to live in. Being a homeless man, he usually sleeps on the streets and beaches of Honolulu.
Michael has an interest in baseball, so he often takes advantage of the wonderful weather to play baseball. That's how he earns him the nickname "Baseball Michael". Many of his friends know where to find him—in the former Heald College parking garage(停车场). There, he practices his skills, in the hope of making it big one day.
Several days ago, when Michael was hitting some baseballs, he lost one in a narrow gap between the parking garage and a drug store next door. He kept on playing. After losing a total of six balls, he decided to go down to get them. The gap was so narrow that he wasn't sure whether he could squeeze in(挤进去). But realizing those baseballs were his only possessions, he finally made up his mind to have a try.
Michael made his way down the gap, but things turned tricky. He saw it was narrow at the bottom but he thought he was thin enough to enter it. Moments later, he let out an "uh oh". Beyond his expectation, the space was too small for him to fit. However, he kept going with his eyes on his baseballs. He whispered, "Don't give up. They are all I have."
As Michael went down a little lower and lower, he realized that there was no way to return. He had to wait for somebody to rescue him. As he didn't bring his mobile phone along, he had to shout as loudly as he could. However, there was no one answering him. Half an hour later, he felt extremely thirsty. He was very tired and afraid that he could no longer hold on. Just when he was about to give up, he heard the sound of footsteps was approaching.

As the name suggests, this consists of some quite difficult exercises, designed to make a man of you! That's a joke. Most of my customers are women. I do morning training in villages, and I advertise in local primary schools. I find that's the best way of reaching young mothers. The training is always outdoors, in all weathers. I'm very much into showing that you don't need gym equipment or heavy weights. So I like to use real things which you can find around your house or garden. My business is still at the developing stage, and the same goes for my website. At the moment, it's just advertising what I do. It's also got some pages of advice about training. Healthy diet is next on my list for the website, although I haven't started that yet. Within six months, I hope to have some videos of people showing some training methods. I'm also planning to organize some sports camps for young children in the summer holidays. I'm looking for some helpers, so join me if anybody is interested.

参考范文:
A worker named Ray passed by and discovered Michael. "Are you OK " Ray asked. "No, I'm trapped and I'm thirsty. Please help me out," said Michael in a very low voice. After hearing that, Ray took out his mobile phone and called one of his colleagues to buy a bottle of water and a rope. Then Ray, together with his colleague, started their rescue work. They tried lowering one end of the rope to Michael, but it was too short for him to grab. After several unsuccessful attempts, they had to call 911 to rescue Michael.
The fire fighters arrived at the site soon. First, they tried many ways to free Michael but didn't make it. The rescue work was getting tougher. Michael became hopeless and began to cry in panic, "Will I die " The firefighters, as well as Ray and his colleague, comforted Michael continuously. The firemen had to use tools to cut the gap wider. With joint efforts, Michael managed to get out of the gap. Then he decided not to do anything dangerous like that. However, fortunately, Ray offered his spare house to Michael. Michael promised that he would find a job and do charity in return.
