Dear Tommy,
I am Ole Orvér, Finnair's chief commercial officer. It's my pleasure to warmly welcome you back
to the skies with Finnair. I’d like to reflect on some of the developments that we hope you find
exciting and helpful:
● This summer season you can fly with Finnair to over 70 European and five US destinations. In
Asia, we serve eight cities, including Guangzhou and newly added Mumbai starting 6 August. We
operate over 300 daily flights and I'm excited about the addition of Seattle and Dallas to our US
network.
● Travel is recovering everywhere, and airports around the world are working hard to manage
increased traffic volumes. It is a good idea to reserve some extra time at the airport before your flight.
We are doing our very best together with our partners both at Helsinki and in our outstations to offer
you a smooth travel experience during this popular travel season.
● You are again able to offset (碳补偿) flight carbon emissions, this time with a service that
combines sustainable aviation (航空) fuel and certified climate projects. We at Finnair have ambitious
emissions targets and our customers wish for a simple and transparent way to contribute.
● Finnair Plus turned 30 in May. We are committed to developing the programme further to serve
you in the best possible way. To make your flight bookings smoother, we recently upgraded the
experience of booking award flights in the Finnair app.
Finally, I’d like to thank you for your patience when we haven't got things quite right. Wherever

For my grandpa Tatay’s 90th birthday, our family threw him a surprise — we decorated the
backyard with Philippines style and asked guests to wear traditional Filipino costume. While I was
jazzed to put on a sarong-like skirt and wrap, my white husband Darren felt nervous in his barong, a
traditional shirt for Filipino man. “I honestly feel uncomfortable.” he said.
But I felt wearing a barong to Tatay’s birthday party was a good choice. I reassured him that it
was just a way to express support and a sense of unity with my Filipino family. And we were wearing
these outfits as an act of kindness to Tatay. He is losing his memory, but barong is something that
remains in his mind.
I could understand Darren. Just over this past year, a number of well-known people have landed
into hot water for wearing the dress of other cultures. They had been blamed by the media and the
public. I wasn’t sure whether wearing the clothing of another culture is appropriate. I turned to my
friend Erich Matthes, an expert of philosophy, for advice.
“It was OK that Darren wore a barong to your family party, for he’s been invited to do so. And
it’s an act of cultural union,” he says. “But it’s not OK if you’re wearing the clothing of another culture
as part of fashion pursuit, a cultural exploration or to intentionally offend or make fun of the group. If
you want to wear a qipao to a party hosted by Chinese friends, but you are not a member of this group,
you should be mindful. It is important to ask for permission and understand the cultural significance
behind the clothing. Last, be aware that wearing another culture’s clothing comes with great
responsibility.”
What the expert suggested hit a big point home for me: What we choose to wear has real power.
Seeing Darren in that barong, I knew that he was making an effort to understand and connect with my
family. And that, for me, was a beautiful thing.

26.What does Erich Matthes say about wearing another culture’sclothing
4
A.It should be avoided on any occasion.

C.It contributes to promoting cultural diversity. D.It helps make a deep impression on the guests.
27.What is the text mainly about
A.The way to prepare a birthday party.

China’s traditional tea-making techniques and their associated social practices successfully became
UNESCO’s latest world intangible cultural heritage(非物质文化遗产) on November 29, 2022. The list
recognizes the knowledge, skills, and practices concerning management of tea plantations, picking of tea
leaves, manual processing, and the drinking and sharing of tea.
Chinese tea producers have developed six categories of tea — green, yellow, dark, white, oolong and
black. There are other varieties like flower-scented teas and more than 2,000 tea products. Because of
changes that occurred over tea’s extremely long history, the tea-making process has become intricate today,
including dozens of smaller steps. Tea makers face numerous challenges during the process. The core steps
of tea-making process consist of enzyme inactivation, yellowing, piling, withering, leaf shaking and
cooling, oxidation or fermentation and scenting. It even takes about half a month to complete the beginning
processes and at least a whole month only to dry the tea.
Speaking of the reasons why the application succeeded, UNESCO said that China’s tea culture helps
develop social practices, traditional skills and handmade products. Zheng Changling, a research fellow at
the Chinese National Academy of Arts, believed that it was mainly due to the long and great history of
Chinese tea culture, which trekked(长途跋涉) along the ancient Tea Horse Road to reach as far as West
Asia and East Africa.
The successful application can further help improve tea’s international influence and help in better
protecting and handing down the techniques and associated tea culture. It will make this cultural heritage
more visible to the public and help promote respect for cultural diversity and human creativity. It also will
encourage people to pursue healthier lifestyles by integrating tea culture into their daily lives.
Wang Yongjian, head of the Chinese delegation to the UNESCO session, said that they will apply for
more of the intangible cultural heritage projects with Chinese characteristics which show Chinese spirit and
wisdom, so as to better promote Chinese culture globally.
28. What does the underlined word “intricate” in paragraph 2 probably mean
A. Productive.
B. Complicated.
C. Mechanized.
D. Environmentally friendly.
29. What is the main reason for the successful application according to Zheng Changling
5
A. China has a rich variety of tea.
B. China has mature tea-making skills.
C. China has a profound history of tea culture.
D. China’s tea products have great international influence.
30. What does paragraph 4 mainly tell us
A. The ways of improving cultural diversity.
B. The wide popularity of Chinese tea culture.
C. The significance of the successful application. D. The methods of maintaining healthier lifestyles.
31. What does Wang Yongjian plan to do
A. Design products with Chinese characteristics.
B. Promote China’s tea culture by the mass media.
C. Encourage people to learn tea-making techniques.
D. Apply for more world intangible cultural heritage items.

In the blue-green depths of the sea off the coast of Tuscany, Italy, an unusual seafloor sculpture park is
defending its watery setting.
Since fisherman Paolo Fanciulli’s teens, he has been heading out daily to fish in these coastal waters
along the Maremma coastline. It was in the 1980s that he began to notice the clear signs: a seabed that was
becoming barren(贫瘠), with exhausted fish stocks. Until recently, he was forced to share catches with a
threatening part: illegal “bottom trawlers”(拖网捕鱼的人), who randomly spoil a large quantity of ocean
life as they fish, dragging a weighted net along the seafloor behind their boats.
Fanciulli’s style of artisanal fishing(手工捕鱼), in contrast, needs to be sustainable as damaging the
ecosystem could reduce fishermen’s income. Fanciulli understood that the success of his fishing activity
was linked to the good state of the environment. “If the sea dies, so does the fisherman. You can’t just take,
you have to give too,” said Fanciulli. The underwater “House of Fish” sculpture park, which was started in
2015, was encouraged by this fisherman’s desire to do something that went beyond the handful of concrete
blocks he had previously convinced local authorities and some environmental groups to drop into the sea to
try and stop illegal trawling.
Concrete blocks or sculptures can break weighted trawler nets. They can also play a role as artificial
reefs, giving corals and other sea life a place to live, and varying shade and lighting to help species
flourish. Thanks to the underwater sculptures, some species not seen in a long while such as groupers and
lobsters have returned. The sculpture park represents both an artistic statement and a physical barrier to
seafloor trawling.
Today, 39 huge, other-worldly stone sculptures dot the seabed along a stretch of Tuscan coastline near
the town of Talamone. These artworks are already coated with algae, a sign that the natural habitat is being
revived. In the immediate future, Fanciulli hopes to continue his beautiful solution in coastal waters. “Man
6
is still destroying the seas,” he says. “And my mission continues.”
32. What poses a threat to Fanciulli’s work of artisanal fishing
A. Increasing fishermen.
B. Frequent bad weather.
D. Concrete blocks on the seafloor.
C. Illegal trawling industry.
33. Why does Fanciulli want to build underwater sculpture parks
A. To show his creativity in carving.
C. To boost the development of local tourism.
34. What is paragraph 4 mainly about
A. The process of building sculpture parks.
C. The roles of sculpture parks under the sea.
35. What could be the best title of this text
A. The First Underwater Park in the World
B. To protect the ecosystem of the sea.
D. To warn people against fishing in coastal waters.
B. The results of banning seafloor trawling.
D. The damaging effects of trawling on sea life.
B. Fanciulli’s Innovation in Cleaning the Ocean
C. Waters with Sculptures: Better Habitats for Fishes D. Seafloor Parks: Artworks for Protecting Our Sea

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Paper is one of our oldest, simplest and most important inventions. But it also presents a danger
to the world in two significant ways.
First, the making of paper requires the loss of millions of trees each year. Between 2001 and 2019,
the world lost 386 million hectares of forest.
36
And worldwide use of paper is expected
to double in the next 40 years. Clearly, the planet cannot sustain such a high rate of forest loss. The
second great problem with paper is what happens once it is no longer useful. A huge quantity of
wastepaper ends up in dumps and landfills, where it can produce harmful gases.
37
One simple solution can greatly reduce both of these problems: paper recycling. Paper is mainly
made from cellulose (纤维素 ),which makes up the cell walls of trees and many other
plants._____38____ So far, trees are the only source of cellulose that can fill the massive demand for
paper products. Therefore, recycling paper is simply one of the best ways to save trees.
39______ It now can offer the same print performance as non-recycled paper.
Effective recycling requires a consistent effort.
40
Once enough people realize
the need for recycling, more effective recycling systems can be carried out. The massive loss of trees
affects everybody on earth. Everyone should do their part to recycle paper and encourage government
and industries to do the same.
A. The way to begin is with education and understanding.
B. Paper-recycling produces cellulose to make more paper.
C. Harmful paper in landfills results in global climate change.
7
D. Of the trees that were cut down, 42% went to paper production.
E. Because of its structure, cellulose can be used repeatedly in papermaking.
F. The gas released is called methane which is a significant contributor in global warming.
G. Thanks to advances in processing, recycled paper isn’t the dull-colored stuff we are familiar with any
more.

解析:M: When I think about my best travel experience ever, so many things jump out at me:
Diving in the Great Barrier Reef, feeding elephants in Thailand, and even teaching kids in
Cambodia. But one experience stands above the rest. And that was my trip to Myanmar with my
best friend. We knew that Wi-Fi would be a struggle. For our entire trip, we had to be in the
moment, with no social media, no work, and completely focus on what we were doing and where
we were. This was a challenge for someone who is continually working and always connected.
But I do think it forced us to be present in a way that we wouldn’t have been if we were
constantly checking our phones. The highlight of the trip was the hot air balloon ride over the
temples at sunrise. We were lucky to get a clear day, and many other rides had been cancelled
due to poor weather. The temples were at their best at sunrise. They shone in the sun and picked
up the gold. This still goes down as my best travel experience
