Kurzweil is an inventor with some interesting ideas on how humans will soon be able to live much longer than the average(平均)78 years they do now.
The first challenge is how to stop our bodies from getting old and dying. Kurzweil doesn’t see this as a problem. With gene technology we’ll soon be able to “turn off” genes that cause ageing and disease.
This technology is getting cheaper and better. Kurzweil believes that from 2022, we’ll be adding more than a year to the average life.
Of course, if we’re all going to live longer, then there are going to be more of us on this already overcrowded(过度拥挤的) Earth. Many people think there are likely to be problems with resources such as food and energy. Kurzweil doesn’t agree. He says that the same technologies used to increase (提升) our lifetime will also be used to help with food production and energy needs. For example, he says, sunlight can give us 10, 000 times more energy than we really use now. We just need to develop the technology to make better use of it and make it cheaper. There are also new technologies that can recycle water cheaply. This means that dirty water can be made clean again at a very low cost. When you think that 80% of disease in the developing world is because of dirty water, you can see how this technology might help change the world.
But what are we going to do with all this extra time Won’t we all get bored Again Kurzweil says “no”. For a start, we won’t be stuck in old bodies. We’ll stay young for years. This will mean we’ll be able to try many more things than we can now.
The future according to Ray Kurzweil looks good—and we might just be around to see it.

C.We can buy food and drinks cheaply. D.We can live in a good environment.

C.People will pay a lot to get more sunlight. D.People can develop technology to help.

第六部分 阅读表达(共3小题;54题2分,55题2分,56题3分,满分7分)
请认真阅读下面短文,用英语回答短文后的问题,并将答案写在答题卡标有题号的横线上。
Speakers usually express messages that wish students luck, happiness and success. However, in a speech earlier this year, John Roberts refused to give his best wishes to a group of ninth-grade students. Instead, he hoped that they would meet with failure and disappointment.
Though it may seem strange, this speech was an important life lesson. It told the students that through failure, one could learn a lot. Roberts also mentioned the importance of friendship. “I hope you will be lonely from time to time so that you won’t take friends for granted (想……当然).” he told the students.
Roberts isn’t the only one that sees value in failure. In a speech the writer JK.Rowling said, “Failure taught me things about myself that I could have learned in no other way.” As many successful people have found, great things are achieved through the experience of recovering from failure.
Today, we’re often taught to avoid failure, not to value it. However, it should be considered that failure can make us stronger and braver. Knowing we’ll live even after failure gives us the strength and courage to get up and try again. Failure is also a natural part of mistakes. If what we do the first time doesn’t work, we can find out what goes wrong, deal with it, and try again.
Personal strengths can also be set free through experiences of failure. Elon Musk once said, “If things are not failing, you are not helpful enough.” By testing new ground, you increase your chances of failure, but you also make it possible to produce something that’s completely new. The simple message is this: don’t be afraid to fail. And when you do fail, look for the lessons that failure can teach you—there is always something to be learned.
54.What did John Roberts hope
55.How are great things achieved according to many successful people
56.Are you afraid of failure Why or why not

During the three years, I have known many kind teachers and helpful classmates. Thanks to them, my middle school life is meaningful and colourful. One of the most unforgettable experiences happened in Grade 8. I worked hard to prepare an English Speech. However, things didn’t went on as smoothly as expected. I fell ill a week before the speech. I coughed so badly that I could hardly speak. I felt worried and helpless. It was my dearest English teacher that helped me get out of trouble. She told me to calm down and looked after me carefully.
