If you ask 100 people what subjects they wish they had been taught in school, there is a chance that the vast majority of them will complain about the lack of personal finance education. In my case, I did learn a bit about financing while in school—just not in the classroom. One of my earliest lessons on the basics of budgeting came from an unlikely source: the cafeteria.
My lunch budget was a set amount each week. Without a plan, it would be all too easy to blow through the budget long before meeting all expenses. Therefore, my very first budgeting lesson was to make a budget well. A bit of simple arithmetic(算术)helped me determine exactly how much money I could spend each day if I wanted to actually have lunch all week.
Besides, my school had relatively diverse lunch offerings. You could not only get the common hot school lunch but also find many other foods of varying attractions. As far as I was concerned, what attracted me most was the ice cream. Unfortunately, I couldn't blow my daily lunch budget on ice cream. And I'd already figured out that splurging early in the week made for a rough time for the rest of the week. Hence. I learned my second important budgeting lesson: save for a goal. Because of this lesson, when Friday rolled around, I would have just enough left over for a wonderful lunch and the highly desirable ice cream.
Nowadays, my budget is a bit more complicated than the lunch budget in the past. Although I no longer have to save my pennies for a frozen treat, budgeting my money today uses the exact same skills I learned all those years ago. Actually, whether you're budgeting for school lunches or credit card bills, the basics remain the same. And it's never too early—or too late—to learn how to make a proper budget.

B. Her health mattered more than anything else.
C. Her budget for lunch was far from reasonable.
D. She should improve her arithmetic as much as possible.

A. To introduce some lessons about making a budget.

A novel contract proposed by a researcher at the University of Texas at Dallas and his colleagues could help ease conflict between food-delivery platforms and restaurants with which they partner.
Food-delivery platforms collect customer orders online, send them to restaurants and deliver the orders to customers. While this service helps restaurants expand their markets, it has disadvantages.
More business sounds good, but it comes at the cost of a commission(佣金)charged by the delivery platform. Besides, a large number of delivery orders might place restaurants under pressure. Delivery orders from the platforms can potentially harm the dine-in experience by slowing down the kitchen, and the expectation of a long-time waiting could stop higher-profit dine-in customers from purchasing.
This motivated the researchers to identify an alternative contract to change the situation. They developed a model and found that different possible pairs of dine-in and delivery prices would produce higher or lower general income with certain prices achieving the maximum possible general income. The ideal solution trades off the increased income from delivery orders against the negative impact that those orders have on dine-in income, finding the right balance between the two.
"If the same company were to control both the dine-in and delivery channels, then it would jointly determine the respective(各自的)prices to maximize the general income," said one of the researchers. "But of course, the prices are usually set by two different companies, and each seeks to maximize its own income. The key is to design an appropriately structured contract so that when each party maximizes its individual income, the resulting prices also maximize the general income."
"Delivery platforms are widely seen as a necessity for many restaurants, despite the low profit on a delivery order. A restaurant not on a delivery platform risks losing an order to its competitors, and that loss could be a repeat customer," said one of the researchers. "Food delivery is indeed expected to maintain a large market share. This makes it all the more urgent to improve the relationships between restaurants and platforms."
28. What does the novel contract focus on
A. Showing restaurants how to profit from food-delivery platforms.
B. Demonstrating the development potential of food-delivery platforms.
C. Analyzing the conflict between food-delivery platforms and restaurants.
D. Improving the relationship between food-delivery platforms and restaurants,
29. How might the food-delivery orders affect the restaurants they work with
A. By introducing their competitors. B. By lengthening their service hours.
C. By changing their operating models. D. By driving up the price of their food.
30. Which could ease the conflict between food-delivery platforms and restaurants
A. Balanced dine-in and delivery services.
B. Reasonable dine-in and delivery prices.
C. Limiting the number of food-delivery orders.
D. Reducing commissions of food-delivery platforms.
31. What can we learn from the last paragraph about food-delivery platforms
A. They are highly profitable. B. They need to be regulated.
C. They have strong competitors. D. They are significant for restaurants.
D
Lithium(锂)is a key material to help power electric vehicles. making the metal vital to reducing carbon footprints. But the combination of lithium mining and climate change seems to have negative consequences for flamingos(火烈鸟)in South America.
A team of researchers examined five lakes in South America's "Lithium Triangle", an area covering parts of Chile, Argentina and Bolivia, where more than 75 percent of the world's lithium is found. This region is also where three of the world's six species of flamingos live. However, the researchers found that a lake in Chile has already lost 10 percent of its James flamingos and 12 percent of its Andean flamingos in 11 years. Andean flamingos are considered "vulnerable”, while James' flamingos are "near-threatened".
These results suggest that continued increases in lithium mining and declines in surface water could soon have dramatic effects on flamingo populations. Lithium mining requires a high volume of water about 400, 000 gallons per ton of lithium. Excluding polar areas, the Atacama Desert in Chile is the driest area in the world, meaning that mining water has to come from the ground. As groundwater is used up, those lakes where flamingos live become uninhabitable to the creatures that flamingos feed on, causing the birds to leave or starve.
Flamingos are key species in the lakes' ecosystems. They're also important for tourism in the area. "When flamingos are gone, the area will have fewer tourists, and this could impact livelihoods in a deep way," said Datu Buyung Agusdinata, a professor at the Arizona State University.
The birds can move around to different lakes to find better conditions, which might not be possible as mining continues to expand. "Science-based conservation management guidelines might still allow future preservation of some key ecosystems in the region," said Mattia Sacco, an ecologist. Still, lithium mining is growing rapidly. "It's impossible to stop mining," study co-author and microbiologist Cristina Dorador Ortiz said. "But we need to do it better."
32. What is the problem with lithium mining in the "Lithium Triangle"
A. It has not satisfied global demand. B. It has poisoned the food for animals.
C. It has polluted the five lakes seriously. D. It has reduced the number of flamingos.
33. What is Datu Buyung Agusdinata's concern
A. The local people will face a severe water crisis.
B. The development of tourism will be influenced.
C. The lakes' ecosystems will never be recovered.
D. Flamingos will be badly affected by tourism.
34. What do researchers say about lithium mining
A. It should be forbidden in certain areas.
B. Its future is full of various uncertainties.
C. It should adopt some eco-friendly measures.
D. Its developing speed should be strictly limited.
35. What is the best title for the text
A. Mining Lithium May Threaten Flamingos
B. Flamingos Are Vital To Local Ecosystems
C. Lithium Mining Is Continuously Expanded
D. People Make Efforts To Limit Lithium Mining

I am a doctor and often attend important academic conferences around the world, but I'm scared to fly in an airplane, As is known to all, traveling on an airplane can be a very tiring task even in the best of circumstances. Especially when the plane arrives above the destination and encounters some special reasons that prevent it from landing safely, the feeling cannot be described in words. In this situation, if you see a patient with Down syndrome(唐氏综合征)in trouble, are you willing to help him
Last week, I took an early flight to Paris, and it was during this flight that I experienced a lifelong and touching experience.
When it was announced on the broadcast that the plane was about to land and passengers were required to prepare, a teenage boy with Down syndrome who was traveling with his family had become upset and would not return to his seat. In spite of the cabin crew's warnings over the loudspeaker that it was almost time to land, the boy completely disregarded all this and still went his own way. In terms of such a situation, the pilot was forced to circle above the airport temporarily, delaying the landing and angering people on the already tense flight.
Though the boy's parents and adult brothers and sisters tried to persuade him to get off the floor and back into his seat, he was opposed to their advice resolutely. They seemed to be in despair.
Finally, the crew sought professional assistance from the passengers. Although I am a doctor, I was helpless in that situation. Subsequently. Murphy. 42—who had been a teacher for about 20 years—glanced at the boy, stood up and quickly headed to the back of the plane.
She found the boy in the passage between rows of seats, lying on his belly. So she also lay down on her stomach to face him. She began chatting calmly with him, asking his name, his favorite books and his favorite characters.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
He told her he felt sick and she tried to comfort him. The plane was finally able to land safely on the ground.

Text 10
W: Jin Schofield is an 18-year-old teen girl from Ontario. Two years ago she volunteered at a laboratory and met a deaf student. She had to work with a human translator to help the deaf boy communicate with those who didn't know sign language, and it stuck with her. After leaving the laboratory, she began to think if she could invent a device that can translate American sign language into spoken English. She talked about it with her good friend Sarvnaz. Her friend showed great interest and the two girls got down to work. They signed up for an online eight-week machine learning course designed by Stanford University. They also turned to local university professors who directed them to more resources. The teens also reached out to people who used American sign language, and asked them about their preferences. With great effort, they invented a device for deaf people to wear on their hands. Because of the device, in August 2020, the two girls won a competition and took home $5,000. They earned $10,000 a year later when they won a national competition. The teens said they hope to use the money to continue experimenting with the device.

He told her he felt sick and she tried to comfort him. A few minutes later, he allowed her to hold his hand, and then together they got properly back into the airplane seats. Murphy asked for sick bags and held them as the boy threw up several times. As she helped him clean up, she repeatedly told him everything would be okay and that they'd get through it together. Thanks to her timely assistance, the boy slowly calmed down.
The plane was finally able to land safely on the ground. As expected, no one was impatient to step off the flight with parcels. Instead, calmed passengers-obviously following Murphy's amazing example—allowed the boy and his family to depart first, smiling at them as they passed. His parents said they couldn't thank Murphy enough for what she had done, and I let her know I had even taken notes on her expert way of having the situation handled. I said, "You must have dealt with such kind of case before, haven't you Your good deeds have made an impression on us. I want to express my deep gratitude to you."
