I grew up in a remote mountain town in the Philippines. My family led a fairly idyllic life, raising goats and growing vegetables and fruits. My brothers and I would play in the nearby river and mountains, reading and doing all the fun things in the nature without worries.
Later I went to college abroad, and I would go back about once a year to visit. That’s when I started to notice changes in my hometown. I watched the river turn from clear to brown to black. Houses and farms replaced the trees. There was smog, and plastic garbage piled up. Seeing my childhood home go from a clean mountain town to a deforested, polluted, and overcrowded place really impacted me. Over time, I began to see my hometown as a place of unsustainable development.
While I worked on addressing deforestation with the United Nations in Indonesia, I vividly remembered seeing forests burned into black landscapes as far as the eye could see. Experiences like that have both terrified me and lit a fire within me to work harder. Thankfully, I began to see that there is another path. I saw success stories in places I worked-Indonesia, Costa Rica, Ecuador-places that are investing in nature and changing the culture and the mindset of what development looks like. I saw places realizing not only economic benefits-from, say, tourism—but also more benefits of ecosystem services.
The work of WWF and other organizations is critical in promoting success stories according to their local context. Each community, region, and country is different, so solutions must meet their different ing from a rural community in a developing country gave me a clear outlook on addressing ecology and sustainability issues and is something I carry with me in my work.

A.Simple and peaceful. B.Busy and noisy.
C.Quiet and boring. D.Tough and tiring.

A.Smog and garbage in the city.

C.Houses and farms in foreign countries.
D.Damaged environment in his hometown.
26.What inspired the author to work harder
A.Success stories he learned. B.Economic benefits from tourism.
C.Some disasters he witnessed. D.Slow development of his hometown.
27.What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A.Communities are faced with common challenges.
B.People have different outlooks on rural development.
C.Ecology issues should be addressed locally and differently.
D.Organizations play the most important role in sustainability.

Isn’t it amazing to combine education with entertainment for children Imagine if primary school students could grasp abstract physics concepts effortlessly through reading funny comics.
That’s where Big Bang in Physics: 128 Sessions of Physics Courses comes in, which is a set of seven booklets that introduces basic physics concepts by using comics designed for children. It’s written by Li Jianlong and illustrated by a comic artists group, which has cooperated on other science comics for children, including one on the theme of frontier technology.
A previous study showed that children who were given the book just involving basic theoretical concepts couldn’t understand physics better than those given the book which presented the concepts through some interesting comics. Some scientists also suggest that the cognitive(认知的)ability of children should be considered.
The content of the comics is consistent with that of the eighth-grade physics textbook for the first semester. He also designs a network diagram that connects all the phenomena and concepts. When producing the content, Li took the most complicated concepts from the textbook and described his ideas very specifically with the illustrators. Together, they’ve successfully transformed “the seemingly boring knowledge” into comic stories, making them easily understandable for children. Li says the comics are mainly for students who struggle to grasp the subject or feel stressed in class, helping them to improve their learning ability. He emphasizes that while explaining abstract concepts of physics to children, it’s essential to make them more vivid and relatable. “I need to present information in ways that children are accustomed to. I hope that children will become interested in physics after reading these engaging comics. When they learn the subject in the future, they will be able to understand it more easily,” he says.
28.What are the seven booklets about
A.Introduction to comic artists. B.Physics concepts via comics.
C.Illustration on advanced technology. D.Cognitive ability of children.

A.To clarify a concept. B.To compare two theories.
C.To make some suggestions. D.To give background information.
30.Who is Li’s work mainly intended for
A.Children fond of comic books. B.Children aimed at frontier science.
C.Students troubled by physics class. D.Students exploring abstract concepts.
31.What is the text
A.A research paper. B.A book review.
C.A science fiction. D.An experiment report

Throughout history, people have been attracted to puzzles. From Ancient Greek riddles to brain-teasing video games, people have tried to solve problems for fun. But what is it about these puzzles that makes us enjoy them
It could be that the desire to find a solution is linked to us. A study has shown that when people complete crossword puzzles, it can excite the reward centre in the brain. One of the researchers behind the study, Yongtaek Oh, suggests that problem-solving ability provides an evolutionary advantage—it can help us survive! It’s clear that this “aha” moment is very enjoyable, but it’s not just completing a puzzle that people enjoy.
David Shariatmadari highlights that solving the best puzzles requires a combination of luck and skill. He points out that the element of chance makes it more open to a wide range of people, while the need for skill gives players a feeling that they are in control. This also helps to provide a balance between being something challenging and something achievable. Michael Vilensky, a psychologist at Ohio State University, tells us that puzzles offer us a situation that we can control and resolve, which can be satisfying when compared with other life challenges. Therapist Elizabeth Hinkel, argues that by requiring concentration, puzzles can provide mindful moments away from the stresses of everyday life. Puzzles can also have a social aspect, whether that’s making it easy to share your grades on social media, or the fact that people are keen to help each other find clues and come up with the answer.
Puzzles and fun may even be dependent on each other, researchers at Drexel University have suggested. When looking at brain images, they found that some people preparing to do a puzzle showed activity associated with more positive moods and that these people were able to come up with more solutions.
32.What does Yongtaek Oh find about crossword puzzles
A.People have a desire to solve them.
B.People can not survive without them.
C.People have fun merely completing them.
D.People gain satisfaction from solving them.
33.What is the benefit of concentrating on puzzles
A.It makes people free from daily stresses.
B.It balances challenges and achievements.
C.It drives people to find ways to help others.
D.It gets people more popular on social media.
34.Which statement might researchers at Drexel University agree with
A.Puzzle-solving positively activates brains.
B.Funny images come to mind in puzzle-solving.
C.Solving puzzles is a great way to be independent.
D.People should solve puzzles together with others.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.Tips on Solving Puzzles. B.Findings on Difficult Puzzles.
C.The Attraction of Puzzles. D.Sources of Interesting Puzzles.

“Get prepared for it, the talent scout will come next month,” the teacher sad. “And oh, if you are selected, the pay is good!”
After school, Grace kicked at the pebbles angrily along the way. She hated being the centre of attention. There was no way she would play the violin. No amount of money would persuade her.

Guided by our teachers, we finished our volunteering in the nursing home last Sunday, which had a deep impact on us.
On arriving at the home, we were warmly welcomed by the staff. As planned, we were divided into several groups to undertake different works. Two groups of students helped to clean the room, and three groups were responsible for chatting with the seniors in delight. Others offered to prepare the dinner for them. At last, all people ended up enjoying our fantastic talent show.
The seniors’ toothy smiles lingered in our mind ever since. Had it not been for this special experience, we couldn’t have realized that the seniors were in need of care. It was then that we found that we could make a difference to the world with our own hands.
第二节(满分25分)
One possible version:
Grace was afraid that the wild beast would be onto her dad’s back again. Then, at night, she decided to fight for role in Mr Spy. Anyhow, the teacher mentioned that there would be a good pay. After telling the thoughts to her dad, Mike said: “Dear daughter, it is indeed a good chance for you to show yourself not only about the money. Be confident! You are my daughter anyway. I will definitely try my best to teach you.” In the following days, Grace kept practising the violin with her dad for a very long time every day. And she was a fast learner. The day before the talent scout came, she could play almost as well as her dad.
The big day eventually came, Grace played beyond everyone’s expectations. When she finished, even the talent scout was on his feet, smiling and clapping. Undoubtedly, Grace was chosen to play lead violinist in Mr Spy. Delighted, her dad helped out in the orchestra. After getting the money, Grace and her dad decided to use it to buy some painting tools for Fay. Although the police officers still failed to find Fay’s paintings back, Miss Fay began painting again with these new painting tools. Luckily, the wild beast wasn’t onto Grace’s dad back again.

I’m here to talk about my experience of studying journalism. 17I decided to do journalism because I heard about how good the course was from my cousin, who majored in it. He is a newspaper reporter now. Then I applied for it online. The tutor Jim Tyler was great. In my first class, we were asked to write an article and we could choose the topic ourselves. Someone mentioned a guy who repaired bicycles free of charge. 18That reminded me I’d heard about a retired teacher who’d taken up making violins. Jim said that was a great idea. So I started to write my first article! I also joined in some reporting exercises, such as a boy being stuck in a tree and rescued by boat. Although on the whole, the course was fantastic, there were a few things that were less so. 19I mean, compared to learning about photography, the typing lessons were pretty boring! I know they will come in useful. Now I’m looking for a job. It’s tough. 20But I’ve got an interview next Monday for a job as a junior reporter for a radio station. It’d be amazing if I got that!
