第一节:
An Autumn Outing to the Red Leaf Valley
Last Sunday, we participated in a one-day trip to the Red Leaf Valley organized by our class, which intended us to get close to nature.
At 6 am, we started on foot from the gate of our school and it took an hour before we reached our destination. During the walk, we not only breathed fresh air but appreciated fantastic surrounding views. In the valley, so attractive were the red leaves that all our stress was relieved. We took some beautiful pictures and enjoyed a wonderful picnic.
This activity rewarded us with an unforgettable memory.
第二节:
With his eyes fixed on Peter’s pocket, he wondered what Peter would do. Hesitantly taking out the treasured sea shells in his pockets, Peter asked in a low voice, “Sir, can these help cover the cost ” Watching the 5-year-old carefully lay down all his shining shells on the counter, the man was somewhat touched, but he just pretended to be counting the shells seriously, “Let me see, one, two…ok. The shells are just enough. You can take the doll and save the money”. Hearing this, Peter felt truly amazed and thanked the shopkeeper, who actually wanted to thank the two little kids, especially when he saw a big smile quickly spread over the little girl’s innocent face. They said goodbye and went out happily with the doll.
Seeing Peter leaving happily with his sister holding the doll tightly, an assistant in that shop got surprised. Since his boss had been in such a low mood recently that he seldom wore any smile and talked much. When the shopkeeper turned around and noticed the assistant’s surprised look, he said smilingly, “lovely kids, aren’t they When I see the little boy is willing to take all he has to buy a doll for his lovely sister, it really warms my heart.” The assistant replied thoughtfully, “When he grows up, he will remember he purchased a doll for his sister with the shells from a shopkeeper, which will surely warm his heart, too.”
听力录音原文:
W: I prefer tea to coffee, but whenever we visit Harry, he always gives us coffee
M: All I really want is a glass of cold water.
2. M: Just look at this newspaper, nothing but robbery, suicide and murder. Do you still believe people are basically good
W: Of course. But many papers lack interest in reporting something positive like peace, love and generosity.
3. M: Hey Jenny. It’s already April. Aren’t your parents coming to visit this month
W: Yes, they have planned to but then an emergency turned up and they have postponed their visit for two months.
4. W: Good morning. May I help you
M: Hello. There’s a problem with my shower. No water’s coming out.
W: My apologies for the inconvenience. I’ll send someone to repair
it. Could you wait for about an hour
M: No Actually, I need to take a shower now. Can I move to another room
5. M: I don’t have a reservation, but can I get a table for five
W: Any children
M: Yes, two.
W: We have a table for four, but we have chairs for children.
6. M: Can we go somewhere and talk It’s so noisy in the office.
W: Shall we go to the cafe upstairs
M: It’s quiet there, but I need to get some fresh air.
W: ⑥Well, there’ s a little park down the street about three blocks. It’s usually not crowded this time of day.
M: Brilliant. Let’s go.
W: Just what is it you want to talk about
M: You remember the note you sent me last month
W: Which one The one about the trip west?
M: Yeah. That’s the one.⑦ Listen! I’ve got a good idea about the whole trip and we need to discuss it.
7. W: ⑧ Are you a German
M: ⑧ Yeah.
W: Why don’t you Speak German
M: Oh. I can, but my mother is an American, so I can also speak English.
W: I want to study English. Can we be language partners I can teach you Chinese.
M: Good idea I’d like that.
W: When will we begin Today or tomorrow
M: ⑨ Next Thursday would be better.
W: That sounds great.
8. W: Good morning. May I help you
M: I hope so. I will be here only two days. I want to see the main sites.
W: Then I suggest you start with Modern Bridge you can take a boat trip there.
M: Good idea .I’d like to see that. What else
W:⑩Why don’t you go to the DB Tower You can get a magnificent view of the city from top of it. It’s a favorite with tourists.
M: Mmm, that sounds interesting, and at night
W: Walter Square has plenty of night life. There are many good theaters and clubs there. 11You can have a real taste of folk music and dancing.
M: Great! What about shops I do need to buy some souvenirs.
W: Oh Nice Avenue is lined with fashionable shops. You can get almost everything there
M: 12 Excellent , two full exciting days! Thank you very much.
W: It’s my pleasure.
9. W: Tonight we have the privilege to have Mr. Robertson, president of Tomorrow Media Corporation to talk about building brands. Welcome, Mr. Robertson.
M: Thanks.
W: First question: is building a brand any different today than it was 20 or 50 years ago because advertising media have changed
M: In many ways, I don’t think it is. 13 You’ve got to represent what that brand really is, and that doesn’t change because the media change.
W: You always tell the advertising managers not to forget that the consumer is the boss. Why is that
M: When new chief marketing officers come in, they want to put their own stamps on things. They’ll make changes that might not necessarily be the essence of the brand. That is wrong.
W: Give an example. Please.
M: Take an example from brands of cars. Volvo is safety Every once in a while the Volvo offices want their cars to be known as beautiful or sporty, but that’s not what people think. People think, “No, Volvo is safety.”
W: What is your suggestion to this
M: 14 You have to be consistent in your brand building through all the media that you use; whether it’s the Internet, traditional advertising, word of mouth, conferences or product placements.
W: 16 The brand competition is now on the fire, what’s your suggestion
M: 15 the best way is to position your brands to be different from another. You need to avoid having brands represent the something, and consumers are not able to figure out which brand is which.
10. M: If you enjoy reading, don’t miss Shakespeare and Company when you visit the city of Paris. It is a famous English-language bookstore on the left bank of the river Seine. The first Shakespeare and Company in history was opened in 1919 by an American, Sylvia Beach. Ms. Beach did more than sell books. 17 Her bookstore was also library. and she even prepared beds for writers visiting there. Ms. Beach was not only kind to people but also good at choosing books, so her bookstore was often visited by writers like Ernest Hemingway and James Joyce 19 But in 1941, after the Germans took power in Paris. Ms. Beach was told to close her bookstore. In 1951, another American, George Whitman opened in Paris another English-language bookstore, Librairie Mistral. Since then, just as Ms. Beach did, 18 Mr. Whitman has also made his bookstore a library for people to borrow books, and a free hotel for writers to stay in. 20 To remember Ms. Beach, Mr. Whitman changed the name of his bookstore to Shakespeare and Company in 1964, two years after Ms. Beach dies. Next time when you are in Paris, don’t forget to visit this friendly bookstore, and see if you can spend a night there.
