Oaxaca
Oaxaca and the nearby archaeological site Monte Alban have both been recognized by UNESCO. This is a student town with a vibrant culture and an important cultural festival—the International Cervantino Festival which is held every October.
Puebla
Puebla is one of Mexico’s large cities, but its historical center can easily be explored on foot. It has some special historical structures such as the 16th-century cathedral and some other fine buildings with walls covered in tiles.
Morelia
Morelia, the capital of the state of Michoacán, was originally called Valladolid, but its name was changed in honor of independence hero José María Morelos y Pavón. When my wife and I didn’t work long, our budget was tight. We tried to save as much money as possible so we could afford overspend occasionally. At the same time, we benefited a lot from the kindness of local store owners.
When my wife was expecting our child, she developed a craving for a local Chinese restaurant’s version of tai dop voy, a mixture of meat, shrimp and vegetables. Even though they rarely saw us, the owners remembered us. One evening, I ordered tai dop voy. They enthusiastically treated me and said, “There is some fried rice for your wife. Have a healthy baby.” The bag was obviously heavier than normal. When I got home, there was not only fried rice but also two orders of tai dop voy.
That was many years ago. But those small kindnesses from locals made a difference. Customers were seen as more than a source of profit. We were members of the community that local businesses served.
The generosity I experienced years ago hasn’t disappeared. I witnessed it recently at my local farmers’ market. A family was debating whether to add another vegetable to the order. The farmer served them and said, “Sorry, I forgot. I have so many vegetables this year. Buy two, and you’ll get another for free. Pick out any one you like.” I thought the farmer was being morally flexible: no prices on the produce, but everything is fairly priced. Fairness is in the sense that care and kindness are parts of the merchant-client relationship.
The kindness of merchants is a sign of something deeper: We are all making our shared way together. For my part, I will continue to support farmers’ markets and family-run restaurants. I am happy to make a fair offer.
( )24.What does the underlined word “craving” in paragraph 2 mean
A.Desire. B.Habit. C.Proposal. D.Technique.
( )25.Why does the author mention the experience of buying tai dop voy
A.To praise Chinese meals. B.To prove love for his wife.
C.To show human goodness. D.To express his thanks to the owners.
( )26.What is the author’s attitude to the farmer in paragraph 4
A.Appreciative. B.Ambiguous. C.Critical. D.Cautious.
( )27.What is the best title for the text
A.Tight budget, happy life B.Low prices, fair business
C.Tasty tai dop voy, deep love D.Small businesses, big kindnesses
C
Dandelion (蒲公英) seeds are some of the best flyers in nature, catching the wind and spreading as far as 100 kilometers. Each dandelion seed is tied by a thin tube to around 100 hairs, which form the parachute-like (类似降落伞的) structure. When seeds break free from the flower head, these hairs catch the wind and carry their seeds. This hairy parachute closes when the air is humid (潮湿的), which often means the wind is weak. In drier and windier conditions, dandelions widen their parachutes to better catch the wind so the seeds can fly freely.
However, in the past, nobody knew how they sense and respond to their environment so effectively.
Now researchers have uncovered the secret “thinking” behind dandelions’ spreading seeds. Their work, published in Nature Communications, found the seed-carrying parachutes open and close using something like actuators—devices that change signals into movement—without using active input of energy. The center of the parachutes senses the humidity of their immediate environment by absorbing water molecules (分子) from the air. Responding to these humidity signals, they either open their parachutes and fly away, or close their parachutes and stay put.
Study author Dr. Naomi Nakayama of the Department of Bioengineering who led the work said that their findings reveal how the dandelion ensures the survival of its species by making perhaps the most important decision in a plant’s life—to stay or go to seek a better habitat.
“Understanding how dandelions work is fascinating because the dandelion is the foundation of ecosystems. It feeds insects and birds,” Nakayama says. “So, the environmental sensitivity of their flight is an important topic for us to understand how nature will change in future climates.”
( )28.What can be learned from paragraph 1
A.Dandelion seeds have a tube-like design.
B.A dandelion flower consists of 100 hairs.
C.Dandelion seeds begin to grow in dry weather.
D.The dandelion parachute closes on wet mornings.
( )29.What do researchers find about the dandelion
A.Its hairs catch the wind easily.
B.Its actuator needs extra energy to function.
C.The middle of its parachute measures humidity.
D.The shape of its actuator was changed by the wind.
( )30.Why do they study how dandelions work according to Nakayama
A.To feed more insects and birds.
B.To better learn about climate change.
C.To change dandelions’ living environment.
D.To further explain their role in ecosystems.
( )31.What is the text mainly about
A.Why dandelion seeds “prefer” the wind.
B.How dandelions “tell” us their destinations.
C.How dandelions “decide” to spread their seeds.
D.Why dandelion seeds “create” parachute-like structures.

“The new normal” is one of those phrases that can accurately apply to a wide variety of life situations, including a medical diagnosis, death or change in life and work. The phrase implies both the newness of each of those circumstances, as well as the necessity that they will need to be normalized, integrated into the reality of our daily lives. Once we’ve settled into new routines and emotional patterns, our “normal” won’t be quite so new anymore, will it The question is a subject of debate.
There is a large middle ground between the event that increases the need for “the new normal” and its final acceptance. Some people think it can’t handle tragedies. But the phrase keeps coming up in conversation, and it has made me realize that“normal”is the last word I would use to describe the fragile place I currently occupy. I find myself there as I mourn the loss of my grandfather, who died in September. For example, the new normal is to have Thanksgiving without Grandfather, then to remember him on what would have been his 75th birthday just a few days later. In other words, during this year of firsts, the new normal is a time of transition, not of arrival.
It strikes me that this is something to be celebrated, not worried over. Part of living positively is meeting ourselves wherever we are. And as I continue to navigate this in-between time, this period of slowly accepting my father’s absence from the Earth, I recognize that each step along the way is a worthwhile part of a healthy grieving process.
The same idea would apply to more positive changes, like a new home or job, as well as the challenges of the end of a relationship or a difficult medical reality. The new normal isn’t something any of us step into all at once. It’s something we become, move toward, and, eventually, accept. Let’s not be in a rush to reach that destination. The journey has much to teach us.
( )32.Which occasion should “the new normal” be applied to
A.A person’s illness outbreak. B.A person’s routine working.
C.A person’s constantly normal life. D.A person’s annual birthday celebration.
( )33.What does the author discuss about the new normal in paragraph 2
A.The fear of it. B.The attitude to it.
C.The reason for accepting it. D.The difficulty in describing it.
( )34.What has the author learned to do from Thanksgiving without Grandfather
A.Forget the dead. B.Live optimistically.
C.Treasure the process over the result. D.Mourn over a family member’s absence.
( )35.What is the author’s main purpose in writing the text
A.To tell us to value our past challenges. B.To tell us some meaningful life stories.
C.To teach us how to handle our tragedies. D.To teach us how to cope with life changes.

M: The most unforgettable experience I’ve ever had Well, that was three years ago when I was in college, I spent a term studying in London. Even though we speak the same language, English people and Americans are very different. They think that we Americans are friendly and that we have a strong desire to be successful and rich. And I think the British are quiet and gentle. I love the lifestyle there. Going out for afternoon tea was fun, and I always did that with my friends. And I really love the old buildings. We don’t have anything that old in the United States, so it is pretty amazing! By the way, I also went to Australia once. The buildings there aren’t so attractive either. The British also have a different sense of humor. Their comedy shows on TV are really funny. I’d like to say my experience was a positive one. In fact, I’m saving up money so I can go back there again.

An Unforgettable Festival
On August 15th of the lunar calendar this year, I went back to the countryside with my parents and spent the Mid-Autumn Festival with my grandparents.
At night, we had a family re union dinner with various local cuisines first. When a glorious full moon hung in the clear sky, we began to taste moon cakes and fruits. I elegantly recited ancient poems about the Mid-Autumn Festival, pushing the harmonious atmosphere to a climax. Finally, we lit a lantern, on which we wrote our wishes, and watched it fly away.
The festival is the most unforgettable one for me. I think everyone can feel the warmth and happiness in these activities, so I decide to celebrate the traditional festival together
