In July 2021, China introduced the “double reduction(双减)” policy. 1 According to the policy, children below the third grade will not have homework anymore. It should take no more than 90 minutes for junior high school students to finish their homework.
“Our homework is clearly less than before,” said 13-year-old girl Shen Yuzhe from Beijing. “We are not encouraged to buy workbooks anymore. 2 ”
According to Shen, students have enough time to learn new knowledge now. “We can learn from real life because our teachers are giving us more chances to do experiments.” said Shen.

Both Shen and Zhang find there are fewer exams now. 4 “Exams push me to study harder. 5 ” Zhang said. “Some students now spend more time having fun when their homework is finished early. But if you use all the free time to relax, you might fall behind other students.” Shen said.

From the day you start to make your own choices. You are responsible for your life. Only you can choose how you spend your time, and the decisions you reach make or break your life. 7
Think life through in the long term.

8 How many new things are you learning Are you putting in the effort necessary to achieve your goals today People often think that their lives will suddenly change through some magical events in the future, but that is not the case. Your life will only change if you change it.
9

So whenever you face a challenge, keep going! No matter how long it takes or how hard it gets, always remember the words, “It’s not over until I win!”

Today we talk about expressions using the word “sun.”
The first expression is about everything, everything under the sun. If you own a store that sold many different items(商品), your advertisements could say you sell everything under the sun. 11 But what would advertising be without some creative descriptions
Here is another example: Let’s say you are talking with a friend you have not seen for a long time. The two of you could have a lot of catching up to do. 12
Under the sun is an old expression - at least 3, 000 years old. It means everywhere the sun shines.
13 This law says that all government meetings must be open to the public. In some states, sunshine laws also say the government must permit (允许)the public to see government records.
14 The word describes the warmer states of the American south, from Florida to California. The warmer weather in the Sunbelt causes many people to move there. They move from the Frostbelt, the colder northern states, and the Rustbelt, the older industrial states.
From geographic areas to music, the word “sun” finds its place.
Every type of music-- from rock to pop to country--has songs about the sun. One of the most popular is “You Are My Sunshine.” What began as a sad love song is now a classic children’s song. 15 Many performers have recorded this song.
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are gray
You’ll never know dear how much I love you
Please don’t take my sunshine away

But our happiness lasts for a very short time when we start comparing the things with others. 27 If today you are happy just because you have more than others, then be ready to lose your happiness because it will start disappearing when you see someone else having more than you. 28 But it will only take a few days to end your feeling of joy if it is based on (根据) what others have.
Actually you can never compare yourself with others. You may know yourself completely. You may know what you have and how you got that. You can compare one factor (要素) but you never even know other factors. 29 Respect every one for what he is and love yourself for whatever you are.
