Watching a young, 21-year-old Jordan Spieth win the US Masters today, I could not help but think of the great qualities he displayed to win the most famous golf event on the calendar against the greatest players in the world.
Jordan Spieth has learned to keep himself in check. There is a great proverb, "A fool shares all his or her feelings while a wise man keeps them in check." As I watched Spieth playing, I noticed a constant calm around him. Whether he hit the shot he wanted or not, he was the same and kept his emotions steady(稳定的)and strong. He never blamed the crowd, clubs or wind.
He knows which club he is going to drive with on every hole; he knows which side of the fairway (高尔夫球道)to land and exactly where he wants to be standing on every green when he is putting; he has played it through his minds for months. He is the person who makes things happen by planning in advance. Winning is not a fluke(侥幸击中); It’s a by-product of months and years of planning. Nothing happens by chance.
If there is an event that every golfer dreams of winning, it's the US Masters. So, how would Spieth have felt in 2014 getting so close to winning but coming second As good as second was, he only wanted to be first. The difference between great shots and poor shots at the Masters is only inches. In that 2014 final round, Spieth was standing on the 8th hole with a 2-shot lead, but through a number of small misses he lost it and never recovered it. However, he never stops learning. As a great person once said, “While you’re green, you're growing; when you’re brown, you're dying." He stays green. He is always reading, learning, and he understands that the greatest teacher of all is failure.
( )24. Which description is suitable for Jordan Spieth
A. He can control himself properly. B. He likes to share his feelings.
C. He is a man of great knowledge. D. He usually uses sayings when speaking.
( )25. What does the third paragraph want to tell us about Jordan Spieth
A. He always has a game plan and sticks to it.
B. He never does anything until it really happens.
C. He usually decides on a club to join in advance.
D. He can’t bear losing the chance of winning a game.
( )26. How did Jordan Spieth feel in the 2014 Masters
A. Inspired. B. Satisfied. C. Doubtful. D. Curious.
( )27. What is the text mainly about
A. Feelings of losing the US Masters. B. Sports qualities of Jordan Spieth.
C. Basic skills of winning a golf game. D. Golfers’ dreams of joining the Masters.

It’s sometimes a challenge for scientists to explain clearly just how widely certain ecosystems in some certain areas around the world are being threatened. There's nothing fuzzy about the term “extinction vortex(旋涡)”, however. That’s what one of the world's most important forests Brazil's Atlantic Forest—is now being called. Since colonization (殖民地化)in the 16th century, the forest has been reduced from over 1.1 million square kilometers to 0.143 million square kilometers. Now a new judgement of the variety of creatures in this place has reached some equally shocking results. More than half of the subtropical forest's local mammal(哺乳动物)species have been wiped out.
“These habitats are now often severely incomplete, limited to not enough large forest remains, and trapped in an open-ended extinction vortex. This has never been recorded in both history and pre-history and can be directly the result of human activity,” said Carlos Peres, a biologist.
The study found that top meat-eating animals, like jaguars and pumas, were the most destructed. But when you're talking about this great ecological destruction, everything takes a hit.
Researchers compared large and medium-sized mammals in the forest from the past 30 years. Basic records came from those taken when the area was first colonized by Europeans in the 16th century. This was a place that left European naturalists in surprise when it was first discovered, with its greenness and with the amount of creature diversity.
The health of the forest's mammals is seen as an important sign because mammals are most helpful in helping plants spread their seeds, and also in controlling animal populations.
“The mammal diversity of the once grand Atlantic Forest has been largely reduced to a pale shadow of its former self,” said Peres.
( )28. What does the underlined word “fuzzy” in the first paragraph mean
A. Valuable. B. Unclear. C. Doubtful. D. Impossible.
( )29. Why is the Brazilian forest called “extinction vortex”
A. Because it is ever colonized by Europeans.
B. Because it is home to large forest mammals.
C. Because it is continually being destroyed.
D. Because it is reduced to a small forest in area.
( )30.How did researchers study the Brazilian forest
By measuring the area of the forest. B. By surveying the plant diversity.
C. By counting the creatures in the forest. D. By judging the recordings of mammals.
( )3l. What is the main idea of the text
A. The decrease in Brazilian rainforests. B. The future of the forest's mammals.
C. The variety of creatures in forests. D. The ecosystems around the world.

Nobel Prize winners, legendary authors, and famous scientists—you might think all these people were born to be creative. However, that's not always the case.
While well-known figures like Pablo Picasso and Albert Einstein did their most significant work in their youth, famous American poet Robert Frost and English-born natural scientist Charles Darwin were known as “late bloomers”—people whose talents are not noticeable until later in life.
This idea of “peaking(达到峰值)” at different times inspired new research from the United States. “Many people believe that creativity is only connected with youth, but it really depends on what kind of creativity you’re talking about,” said Bruce Weinberg, a professor of economics at the University of Chicago and co-author of the study.
According to the study, published earlier this month in the journal De Economist, here are two types of people: conceptual(概念的) and experimental thinkers.
To reach their conclusion, researchers took the 31 previous winners of the Nobel Prize in economics and arranged them according to when they did their most significant work, to identify their creative peaks.
Some peaked from ages 25 to 29. Classified (分类) as conceptual thinkers, these people think outside of the box, coming up with new ideas before they become used to the conventional way of doing things.
The second creative peak came with economists in their 50s. These are experimental thinkers who have been in their fields for a long time. This allows them to learn from errors and experiment with different processes, before eventually finding new solutions.
“Whether you hit your creative peak early or late in your career depends on whether you have a conceptual or experimental approach,” said Weinberg. He added that their study isn't limited to economics, saying it can apply to other creative fields. So if you’re struggling to come up with new ideas, don't panic. Your creative peak may be yet to arrive.
( )32. What did the study from the US find
A. Young people are not necessarily more creative than old people.
B. Most people have a conceptual approach when thinking.
C. One’s creative peak is related to their job type.
D. Conceptual and experimental thinkers hit their peaks at different times.
( )33. What do we know about experimental thinkers
A. Their talents usually peak in their 20s.
B. They are good at doing experiments.
C. They work out new methods based on experience.
D. They are more successful than conceptual thinkers.
( )34. What would Weinberg probably agree with
A. It’s difficult to find one’s talent in later years.
B. More research needs to be done about creative peaks.
C. Conceptual thinkers could be more successful in the art field.
D. Experimental thinkers from other fields may be most successful in their 50s.
( )35. Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A. Never too old to succeed B. Better late than never
C. Do not teach fish to swim D. Experience is the best teacher
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Family time isone of the most important times in a child's life. My family and I spend a lot of time together, including having dinner together every night. 36 Even when my father is away on business, my mother, my sister and I talk and have fun together. As a teenager, spending time with my parents is not the most fun thing I do but I feel it is necessary. I learn from them every time we talk, whether it is about my dad’s job or my mother's days.
37 Data show that only half of families sit down for dinner together every night. That's a shame because researchers claim that kids who have these regular family dinners tend to have a sense of belonging and safety. 38 And they are also more likely to have better grades and a larger vocabulary.
There have been many recent studies showing kids are “wilder” than they used to be. 39
Some think less attention from parents might be one of them. If parents spend more time with their children, they will keep their kids away from television, video games and “wild” ideas,
I have noticed in old TV shows and my parents' stories that not long ago sitting at the family dinner table was not a choice, but a must. 40 It is probably because parents and children are under more pressure from work and study. Although we all lead busy lives and are always running around trying to finish homework or play sports, we should all spend 20 minutes each day to eat dinner together.
There are certainly many reasons for this. I did a little research on the “family table” idea. Children just watch TV and play computer games. It is important for parents to teach children how to behave. Nowadays, it seems harder for people to find time to be together. F. What's more, they learn better behaviors during the time with their parents. G. We don’t watch television. Instead we sit down at the table to eat and discuss our days.

Puppies for sale
A shop owner placed a sign above his door that read, “Puppies for Sale.”
As we know, signs like this always have a way of appealing to young children, and to no surprise, a little boy appeared by the shop owner’s sign and approached the owner. “Excuse me, how much are you going to sell the puppies for ” he asked.
The store owner replied, “For anything between $30 and $50.”
The little boy reached in his pocket and pulled out some change from it. “I have $2.37 on me,” he said in a low voice. “Can I please look at them ”
The shop owner smiled and whistled. Out of the kennel (犬舍) came Lady, who ran down the passage of his shop, followed by five tiny balls of fur. One puppy was moving slowly and fell behind. In no time the little boy picked out the slow puppy and asked, “What’s wrong with that little dog ”
The shop owner explained that the vet (兽医) had examined the little puppy and had discovered that his back leg was injured. He would always walk slowly and with difficulty. He would be lame (瘸的).
Hearing what the shop owner had said, the little boy became excited, “That is the little puppy I want to buy.”
The shop owner said, “No, you don’t want to buy that little dog. If you really want him, I’ll just give him to you.”
The little boy got quite upset. He looked straight into the shop owner’s eyes, pointing his finger at him, and said, “I don’t want you to give him to me. That little dog is worth every bit as much as all the other dogs and I’ll pay full price. As a matter of fact, I’ll give you $2.37 right now, and 50 cents a month until I have him paid for.”

Dear Lily,
I’m sorry to learn that you are having such a bad time. Actually, most people will feel homesick and anxious and have trouble in adapting to the new living and learning environment when they leave home and come to a new place, especially a foreign country. So don’t worry too much.
Here are some tips for you. First, you’d better try to change some of your habits so that you can get used to the new environment as soon as possible. Second, make more new friends, who can share their hobbies and ideas with you. You will feel less homesick with many friends around you. Third, you should take part in some social activities, which will help you learn more about the local customs and culture.
I hope my advice will be useful.
Yours,
Li Hua
After a while, a police car pulled up and Cory waved to it with excitement. Two policemen came out of the police car and Cory couldn’t wait to explain what had happened to Simon. Then, the policemen checked for any missing person’s report without any delay. Meanwhile, they drove the two of them around the nearby neighborhood one by one to search for Simon’s home. Finally, they successfully contacted the little boy’s parents. Cory was more than glad to see Simon s reunion with his parents.
Seeing the reunion of Simon and his parents, Cory was deeply touched. He thought of his own parents, the warm home and his mother’s delicious supper. He thought his parents must have been as worried as Simon’s and they must have been anxiously searching everywhere for their son right now. The more he thought about it, the more guilty he felt for what he had done to his mother. All his anger died away in an instant and he rushed in the direction of his home.
