Why do Americans struggle with watching their weight while the French, who consume rich food, continue to stay thin Now a research by Cornell University suggests how life style and decisions about eating may affect weight. Researchers concluded that the French tend to stop eating when they feel full. However, Americans tend to stop when their plate is empty or their favorite TV show is over.
According to Dr. Joseph Mercola, a health expert, the French see eating as an important part of their life style. They enjoy food and therefore spend a fairly long time at the table, while Americans see eating as something to be squeezed between the other daily activities. Mercola believes Americans lose the ability to sense when they are actually full. So they keep eating long after the French would have stopped. In addition, he points out that Americans drive to huge supermarkets to buy canned and frozen foods for the week. The French, instead, tend to shop daily, walking to small shops and farmers’ markets where they have a choice of fresh fruits, vegetables, and eggs as well as high-quality meats for each meal.
After a visit to the United States, Mireille Guiliano, author of French Women Don’t Get Fat, decided to write about the importance of knowing when to stop rather than suggesting how to avoid food. Today she continues to stay slim and rarely goes to the gym.
In spite of all these differences, evidence shows that recent life style changes may be affecting French eating habits. Today the rate of obesity—or extreme overweight—among adults is only 6%. However, as American fast food gains acceptance and the young reject older traditions, the obesity rate among French children has reached 17%—and is growing.
24. In what way are the French different from Americans according to Dr. Joseph Mercola
A. They go shopping at supermarkets more frequently.
B They squeeze eating between the other daily activities.
C. They regard eating as a key part of their life style.
D. They usually eat too much canned and frozen food.

A. By comparison. B. By space.

Chinese traditional painting and dance are two vital parts of the art world. But what about when they meet each other
This year, a dance drama titled Poetic Dance: The Journey of a Legendary Landscape Painting (《只此青绿》) was staged on CCTV’s Spring Festival Gala and became a hit.
According to CCTV, this poetic dance program was inspired by the 900-year-old Chinese painting A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains (《千里江山图》). Created by Song Dynasty painter Wang Ximeng at about 18, the painting is amazing in its huge size, rich coloration and the expressive details, reported CCTV. It shows a Chinese blue-green landscape: “mountains and groupings of infinite rise and fall between cloudless sky and rippling water”.
When the dancers moved elegantly, audiences seemed to be looking at the moving mountains and rivers. “It brings me a pure experience of beauty. It is not only a drama but also an ‘exhibition’. Vast mountains and rivers are coming to life!” Internet user Mo Weisha wrote in a review. “More than a thousand years later, green mountains and rivers still wow people as they did long ago.”
Some people even decided to watch the dance again when it was staged in the theaters later. In fact, in recent years, more and more modern shows pay attention to Chinese traditional culture and have received warm welcome. As for why, it is due to people's great love for traditional culture.

The ice around Alaska is not just melting. It's gotten so low that the situation is endangering some people's food and jobs.
“The seas are extraordinary warm. It is affecting the ability for Americans in the area to put food on the table right now,” said University of Alaska climate expert Rick Thoman.
Ocean temperatures in the Chukchi and North Bering seas are nearly 5°C above normal, satellite data shows.
“The northern Bering and southern Chukchi Seas are baking. And there are immediate local and economic influences along the state's western and northern coastlines. Birds and sea animals are showing up dead and sea temperatures are warm enough to support algae (藻类) to grow rapidly, robbing sea animals of oxygen and sunshine.” he said.
Many coastal Alaska towns are facing dire situation since they depend on fishing to support their economy and feed people who live there.
“Much of what the people eat there comes from food they harvest themselves,” said Brian Brettschneider at the International Arctic Research Center. “If people can't get out on the ice to hunt seals or whales, that affects their food security. It is a human crisis (危机) of survival.”
The warming is a sure signal of a warming planet, according to Brettschneider.
“This event is unquestionably a reflection of our changing climate. And this year's conditions will have a lasting effect. These extraordinary warm waters will take a while to cool off as winter approaches, and later and thinner ice is expected in the coming winter.” he said.
“What is happening in coastal Alaska is what is coming in one sense for everybody else,” he said. “Most people are feeling the effects of climate change even if they don't know it. Changes are happening, and changes will be more obvious. ”
32. Why is the food for people in Alaska at risk according to Rick Thoman
A. The sea water is too warm for creatures in the sea.
B. Climate change causes the increasing death of sea creatures.
C. Fishers are forced to quit their jobs because of climate change.
D. Higher temperature produces poisonous plants that can't be eaten.
33. What does the underlined word “dire” in Paragraph 5 mean
A. Inconvenient B. Familiar. C. Sudden. D. Awful
34. What is Brettschneider's attitude towards the current situation of climate change
A. Positive. B. Curious. C. Concerned. D. Unclear.
35. What message does the author try to express in this text
A. People can do nothing to deal with climate change.
B. Climate change makes people in Alaska live a hard life.
C. More efforts should be made to protect the sea life in Alaska.
D. There are many reasons why the ocean in Alaska is warming.

In 1989, fresh out of high school, I had the difficult task of choosing a career path before college started in three months. In those days in Pakistan, there were limited options (选择): becoming a doctor or an engineer, or entering the financial world after getting a business degree. I wasn’t interested in engineering, so I was left with medicine or business. I couldn’t decide.
My uncle, an influential person in the family, suggested that I do a work placement to experience it for a month in an international company followed by a month in a hospital. After that, I could make a decision.
It seemed like a brilliant idea. I was accepted for a month’s placement at a foreign bank in Karachi. I got a feel for how the world of finance functioned, made new friends, and generally enjoyed the mostly easy-going work surroundings.
The month passed rapidly, and soon I began working at a leading hospital in Karachi. The experience couldn’t have been more different. The hospital had an intense (紧张的) environment. The days started early (at 7 am, compared to 9 am at the bank), and were heavy with endless duties. And the night calls! This was crazy, working all day, through the night, and again the next day.
I began thinking about my two experiences. The bank had offered a more relaxing atmosphere (氛围), better working hours and less stress. The hospital was full of excitement and unpredictability, but the studying and training was difficult. It seemed that the business option was going to win out.
Near the end of my month at the hospital, I was driving home after an especially busy night call. In front of me was a public bus, with college students sitting on the top. As the driver weaved through (穿梭) traffic, I could see the boys shaking from side to side.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;

Some 30 oil paintings on paper by British artist, L.S. Lowry, will be on display at the art building of our college. It’s the first-ever exhibition of the artist’s works in our college. Lowry is one of Britain’s most famous artists, and is a close observer of the U.K.’s social life. His works mainly show ordinary people on streets, in factories, parks and football fields. It has been said that the pictures drawn by Lowry are filled with an atmosphere of sadness and loneliness, but also with respect and a sense of humor. The admission is free, but you have to get a ticket with your student card at the front desk of the art building. If you forget to get it, you can’t go into it. Please call 025-8349-8693 for details. Why do Americans struggle with watching their weight, while the French, who consume rich food, continue to stay thin Now a research by Cornell University suggests how life style and decisions about eating may affect weight.
B. They squeeze eating between the other daily activities.
C. They regard eating as a key part of their life style.
D. They usually eat too much canned and frozen food.
25. What is the text mainly about

“The younger generations have grown up with a more open mindset. They hug Chinese culture and are proud of it.” Yao Wei, director of Henan TV Station’s Innovation Center, told China Daily.

【答案】32. B 33. D 34. C 35. B

67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整短文。
注意:1. 续写词数应150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

【答案】参考范文
Suddenly, a boy fell off the back of the bus. He hit the road face down and rolled over. He lay motionless in the middle of the road as the bus drove away quickly. The cars directly behind the bus braked to avoid the boy, but none stopped. I knew that if the boy was bleeding into his brain, he would die soon. I stopped my car. I lifted his unconscious body into my car with the help of some passers-by, and then raced back to the hospital. Since I wasn’t allowed into the operation room, I drove home.
The next day, when I went to hospital to see the boy, all his family got up, with grateful smiles on their faces. The mother held my hands and started weeping. “Son, you are an angel,” she repeated over and over again. After comforting her, I went over to the boy. He managed to smile and squeezed my hand. No words were spoken between us — none were needed. I spent the rest of the day in a state of excitement, the most fabulous mood I had ever experienced. I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
