One possible version:
Dear Mike,
Sorry to hear that you are upset due to fast pace of school life and great pressure
of study. Don’t worry, as you are not alone. Try the following tips to see if they can
help.
Firstly, talk with your parents and teachers about difficulties you are going
through. I believe they can provide useful advice for you. Additionally, hold a positive
attitude towards exams. Remember, they are just a way to help you evaluate what you
have learnt recently. Last but not least, instead of pushing yourself too much, you’d
better set small goals based on your abilities and stick to them.
Hope my suggestions will be of use to you.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

Text 1
W: Kris, put down your pen. The time for the exam is over. You can’t write any
more answers.
M: Oh, Ms. White. I’m just signing my name. I will hand in my paper right now.
Text 2
W: Tomorrow is Teacher’s Day. I’m going to write a thank-you card for Miss
Evans. How about you
M: I’ll send her a message to express my thanks.
Text 3
M: Have you got the class schedule for the new semester, Jane What classes do we
have tomorrow
W: Yes, I have. For tomorrow, we have science and history classes in the morning
and two math classes in the afternoon.
Text 4
W: Now, please put the relevant books and notebooks in the desk drawer.
M: How much time do we have, Mrs. Brown
W: Two hours and a half. And you can turn in your papers and leave the classroom
half an hour early.
Text 5
M: Jack looks upset. Did he fail the math exam again
W: No, Jack’s pencil case was broken by Terry. But Terry refused to make an
apology, so they had a fight.
Text 6
W: ⑥Eric, can you help me with this math problem There are a lot of numbers
that give me a headache.
M:⑥I’m sorry, Bella. I’ve promised to meet my friends at the cafe.
W: Eric, please. I asked my father for help, but he couldn’t solve it either. I didn’t even
sleep well last night because I was thinking about it.
M: ⑦Why don’t you ask Mr. Brooke for help I believe he’ll explain it to you
clearly.
W:⑦You’re right. I’ll go to his office right now.
M: Well, he won’t be there. ⑦I just saw him talking with a student in the next
classroom.
Text 7
W: ⑧Ms. May told us a story called The Village in the Snow in today’s reading
class.
M: Oh, I know that story. It tells the daily life between a little boy and his grandfather.
It’s really funny, isn’t it
W: Yes. And I was deeply attracted by the snow scene described in that story. ⑧It
reminded me of the days we had snowball fights last year.
M:⑨Ha-ha. Dad made a big snowman for us.

W:Yep! How about going skiing this winter holiday
M: ⑨Mom and Dad have the final say. Besides, it’s just the beginning of summer.
Winter is still far behind.
Text 8
M: Excuse me. May I have some information about the party you are advertising
outside
W: Sure. ⑩The party will provide a chance for new students to get to know each
other and more importantly, to learn some valuable advice from former
students.
M: Who is the organizer of the party, our department or the university club
W: Actually, it’s the Student Union.
M: I hope we won’t have to sit through plenty of boring speeches. Will we
have time for some fun at the party
W: Of course. Most of the time will be split between eating, dancing and singing, so
don’t worry. However, some words of wisdom from the former students should not
be missed. And besides that, the pie to be served at the party is so popular.
It is by far the best pie I’ve ever tasted.
M: Okay, thanks.
Text 9
M: Hey, Amy, I need someone to talk to. Do you have the time
W: Of course. Let me finish writing the last sentence of this letter. OK, I’m done.
M: Thanks. Do you remember what happened last Sunday
W: The day you went fishing with Julia
M: Yes.
W: Oh, of course I remember. You guys didn’t catch any fish, and you got mad at Julia.
Did you apologize to her
M: Yes, I sent a message to apologize, and she replied in a very polite way. But
I’m afraid she’s still angry with me. Can you help me
W: Of course. How can I help you
M: Can you ask Julia to meet us somewhere We can go to the movies or enjoy a
concert. What do you think
W: It will be difficult for us to talk at these places. Why don’t we go to Mickey
Cafe I remember she loves the dessert there very much.
M: That’s a good idea. How about going there tomorrow morning I’ll treat you to
lunch.
W: Well, it’s okay for me. But I’m not sure if Julia is available. I’ll contact her
right now.
M:Alright. And if she agrees, please tell her that I can pick her up at 9:00 a.m.
W: I see.
Text 10
M: I was born without hands and feet. It’s a rare condition. Living through difficulties
has made me who I am today.
My parents helped me develop tools to overcome my challenges. When I was
2, my dad decided that my family would stop helping me eat. He knew that
one day I’d live on my own, so I’d have to look after myself. I learned to eat
with a spoon, and then with a knife and a fork. It gave me a sense of
accomplishment.

My darkest moment came when I was 10. My family moved from Indiana to
Georgia. In Indiana, my friends treated me as normal. But in Georgia, it was
different. I felt very aware of my disability. I felt hopeless about the future.
My world changed when I got into sports. I started playing football.
Everything came together when I made my first kick at age 11. It was my
first real achievement.
Then I decided to start wrestling. I had an amazing coach who helped me invent
moves that took advantage of my strength. I eventually finished 12th in the 103-
pound weight class in the championships. I keep going in the face of difficulties.
