People who live far away from the ocean sometimes never get the chance to go to the beach and play in the water. An educational program in Australia is changing that for aboriginal(澳大利亚土著的)children from the bush (an area of wild land), letting them see and swim in the ocean for the first time.
Bush to Beach, founded (创建) in 2006 by Jack Cannons, brings kids from Brewarrina and nearby areas in northwest New South Wales (NSW) to South Narrabeen Beach near Sydney for a three-day surf (冲浪)camp to learn new skills and build confidence in an environment that is totally new to them.
Through a partnership with the South Narrabeen Surf Life Saving Club, over 600 children took the 100-hour bus ride to visit the beach. Only children who have good school attendance and behavior can take part in the program. The children have fun in the sun, learning how to swim and surf, but most importantly, they learn CPR (a life-saving method) and water safety rules.
Despite spending all those hours on a bus, the kids were very happy to be at the beach. Nine-year-old Hazel was excited to collect shells(贝壳) and go for a swim. “My town is small but here it’s big. We don’t have a beach at Brewarrina,” she said. “I went surfing and I saw many different sea animals.”
The kids gain so much from the program, and so do the volunteers. Brian Grundy, a local South Narrabeen surf lifesaver, said that the program has a “surprising” effect on the kids, and helps encourage them to achieve goals, including higher education.
Cannons was very pleased with the success of the program and said that he wanted to expand(扩大) it to more NSW communities in the next two years. He said, “I want this to go right around the country, surf clubs and communities forming partnerships with bush towns and developing friendships.”
Bush to Beach was founded to ___________.
open aboriginal children’s eyes.
attract more people to the beach.
raise money for aboriginal children.
recommend a new lifestyle to people.
What did Hazel think of her taking part in the program
It provided her with much pleasure.
It helped improve her school attendance.
It made her think of leaving her small town.
It got her interested in studying sea animals.
What is Grundy’s attitude towards the program
Unclear B. Doubtful C. Favorable D Carefree
What is Cannon’s latest plan
To help coastal children explore the bush.
To grow surf communities around the country.
To call on more volunteers to attend the program.
To bring the program to more communities and their children.

When you're sitting in class or behind your desk waiting for the clock to strike a time when you can go home, it is natural that the mind can wander (漫游) a bit. It is common for your mind to wander to a vacation and even travel the world. What if there is a way that you can travel the world without having to pay any money
A person that managed to make it around the world without spending much was Shantanu Starick. How did he trade off his service Starick realized that as a photographer he had a service that people would usually be willing to pay money for, but he would instead offer his photography service to anyone who could provide him with food, shelter and transportation. Starick has been traveling for a surprising 30 months and has visited countries ranging from the United States to Ecuador.
In English-speaking countries, trading off service and communicating aren't difficult for Starick. However, in more far areas where there isn't an English-speaking person in sight it can be quite difficult. Locals appreciate (欣赏) the effort behind trying to speak their language more than anything, even if you don't exactly sound like a native speaker.
You can do it too!
Honestly, with a bit of confidence, drive and a skill you can trade, you'll be able to do exactly the same as Starick.
Start thinking about what you can do to get around the world without paying money. With our social networks and the connectivity our world has, you can easily connect with and market yourself to people across the world without any effort.
28. What is the author's purpose in writing the first paragraph
A. To give an example for the text. B. To describe students in class.

A. The skill to trade off. B. The confidence to succeed.
C. The determination to travel. D. The effort to speak the local language.
31. What do we know about Shantanu Starick
A. He has a skill to travel without paying money.
B. He is too poor to afford the travels.
C. He is a professional traveler.
D. He doesn't say other languages except English.

In my mind, there is a moving story about a skinny young boy who loved football with all his heart.
Practice after practice, he eagerly gave everything he had. But being half the size of the other boys, he got absolutely nowhere. Despite his hard training at all the games, this hopeful athlete sat on the bench and hardly ever played.
This teenager lived alone with his father, and the relationship between the two of them was very special. Even though the son was always on the bench, his father was always in the stands cheering. He never missed a game. This young man was still the smallest of the class when he entered high school. But his father continued to encourage him.
The young man loved football and was determined to try his best at every practice, and perhaps he’d get to play when he became a senior. All through high school he never missed a practice nor a game but remained a benchwarmer. Besides, his faithful father was always in the stands, always with words of encouragement for him. When the young man went to college, he decided to try out for the football team as a “walk-on”. Everyone firmly believed that he could never make the cut, but he did.
The news that he had survived the cut made him so excited that he rushed to the nearest phone and called his father. His father shared his excitement and was sent season tickets for all the college games. This persistent young athlete never missed practice during his four years at college, but actually he never got the real chance to play in a game.
It was at the end of his senior football season that the coach met him with a telegram. The young man read the telegram and he became totally silent. Swallowing hard, he mumbled(咕哝) to the coach, “My father died this morning. Is it all right if I miss practice today ” The coach put his arm gently around his shoulder and said, “Take the rest of the week off, son. And don’t even plan to come back to the game on Saturday.”
Saturday arrived, and the game was not going well. In the third quarter, when the team was ten points behind, a silent young man quietly slipped into the empty locker room and put on his football gear. As he ran onto the sidelines, the coach and his players were surprised to see their faithful teammate back so soon. “Coach, please let me play. I’ve just got to play today,” said the young man. The coach pretended not to hear him. There was no way he wanted his worst player in this close play-off game. But the young man insisted, and finally feeling sorry for the kid, the coach gave in. “All right,” he said. “You can go in.” Before long, the coach, the players and everyone in the stands could not believe their eyes. This little unknown, who had never played before, was doing everything right. The opposing team could not stop him. He ran, passed, blocked, and tackled like a star. His team began to succeed. The score was soon tied. In the closing seconds of the game, this kid got a pass and ran all the way for the winning touchdown.
Finally, after the stands had emptied, the coach noticed that this young man was sitting quietly in the corner all alone. The coach came to him and said, “Kid, you were unbelievably fantastic! Tell me what got into you How did you do it ”
He looked at the coach, tears in his eyes, and said, “Well, you knew my dad died, but did you know that my dad was blind ” The young man swallowed hard and forced a smile, “Dad came to all my games, but today was the first time he could see me play, and I wanted to show him I could make it!”
32. What does the underlined sentence “he got absolutely nowhere” mean
A. He could never make his father see his performance clearly.
B. There was no chance of his becoming a top athlete in this sport.
C. There was no coach to train him well enough to be a good player.
D. He had no idea at all what kind of person he wanted to be in the future.

A. the young man’s father had a great positive influence on him
B. the young man’s coach played an important role in his growth
C. not until his father passed away did the young man train hard
D. the young man’s road to success in football was always smooth
34.Why did the young man return to the match on Saturday
A. He planned to make money to cure his father of his blindness.
B. He thought he was much better than other players in his team.
C. He hoped his dead father could be proud of his performance.
D. He wanted to defeat the opposing team in this significant game.
35. What’s the best title of the passage

W: Good luck, Rob.
Text 9
W: Oops! Sorry.
M: Let me help you, ma’am. We can place these things in the seating area for now.
W: Thanks. Can I get a medium cup of coffee
M: Sure. Why do you have so much stuff
W: I’m taking a trip tonight. I have a lot to do before I go. Next, I need to go to the post office.
M: If you’re shipping a package, you can do it here. Just put your package on the counter and
write the address on this form.
W: Really Oh, thank you. I plan to go to the library. I need a travel guide. Do you have one here
M: Maybe. Check the book and magazine area.
W: Here’s one! It’s perfect! Oh, and I need a drink for the trip to the airport. This green tea looks
good.
M: Anything else
W: Only if you can call a taxi for me.
M: I can.
W: Wow. This convenience store is quite convenient.
Text 10
M: Are you into robots If you are, then the World Robot Olympiad is perfect for you. The
competitions are organized in over 75 countries worldwide. At this big event, teams of students
compete with others in their age group. The main groups are elementary, junior high, and senior
high school.
Each team’s goal is to design, build, and program a robot with Lego Mindstorms bricks. The
robots aren’t just for show, though. They have to be able to perform certain tasks in a certain
amount of time. The Olympiad’s tasks can be difficult. In one section, teams must put together their
robots in under 150 minutes. Then, their machines must finish a set of problems in two minutes. In
another section, teams get to present their own designs. They try to solve real-life problems with
their robots. The focus of the problems changes each year. The last section is the one everybody
loves. Robot teams play soccer against each other. If you want to be a part of the fun, join the World
Robot Olympiad.
