A new film hit Chinese screens on Sept. 30, the eve of China’s seven-day National Day holiday. The film, Home Coming (《万里归途》), is mainly about evacuation (撤退) of Chinese people from a war in an African country. It tells how two Chinese diplomats (外交官) lead 125 Chinese people to return to China. It is based on a real evacuation event in Libya in 2011, when the Chinese embassy (大使馆) evacuated more than 30,000 Chinese people over 12 days.
Home Coming is directed by Rao Xiaozhi. The main characters include the experienced actor, Zhang Yi, and the young actor, Wang Junkai. “The real diplomats are also common people. They are fathers, husbands, and sons, but they need to get to the front line as their duty. Their bravery deeply moved me,” Rao said at the premiere (首映) of his new film in Beijing on Monday.
Rao described how he and his team traveled all over China to find proper film locations, including Qingdao, Beijing, and Yinchuan since they were unable to leave the country. The actors and team also had to put themselves in the real desert environment near Yinchuan to experience a similar environment as if they were in Africa.

A Swedish company came up with a creative and cheap way to clean up its streets: to hire birds. Crows, especially, have been trained to collect cigarette butts (烟头) off roadways and put them in a machine that rewards the clever birds.
The pilot project called Corvid Cleaning comes from The Keep Sweden Tidy Foundation and aims to lower the cost of street cleaning in the city of Sodertalje.
Founder Christian Gunther-Hansen thought crows would be the best choice because they are very clever. “They are easier to teach and there is also a higher chance for them to learn from each other,” he told Swedish news agency TT. “At the same time, they have a lower risk of eating any rubbish by mistake”.
The birds are trained through a step-by-step process to pick up rubbish and place it into a machine that offers them food.
Tomas Thernstrom, a waste expert for the Sodertalje Municipality, said one of the most interesting things about the project was that crows could be taught to pick up cigarette butts but humans can’t learn not to throw them on the ground in the first place.
8.Why did the Swedish company prefer to choose crows instead of other birds to collect cigarette butts
A.Because crows are clever.
B.Because crows like eating cigarette butts.
C.Because there are plenty of crows in Sweden.
D.Because people there are interested in crows.
9.What’s the meaning of the underlined word “rewards”
A.punishes B.discovers C.searches D.awards

D.People who throw away rubbish everywhere are not as clever as crows.

Orbital Assembly Corporation, a new company run by John Blincow, is planning to open a space hotel by 2027. John Blincow once worked as a pilot. His space hotel, called Voyager Station, would hold 280 guests and 112 workers. It is trying to be the first commercial space hotel.
“We’re trying to make people realize that this golden age of space travel is just coming and it’s coming fast,” Blincow told CNN.
Sleeping in a space hotel will not be as comfortable as in a hotel on the earth because of the weightlessness. However, the hotel will find some ways to simulate gravity(模拟重力) to make comfortable rooms possible.
But, for many visitors, they would like to feel the weightlessness in space. As a result, the team plans to offer traditional space food such as freeze-dried ice cream in the hotel’s restaurant. It also plans some activities such as basketball games. Players can jump higher because of the weightlessness of the environment when they play basketball.
For now, the company isn’t talking about the prices of the rooms. However, they will cost a lot more compared with some space tasks. For example, Virgin Galactic plans to send passengers into space at $250, 000 per person, per trip. The team at Voyager Station, however, has already said that they plan to make a stay in the hotel something similar to buying a cruise ticket.
12.How will the space hotel make rooms comfortable
A.By offering a lot of space food.
B.By offering the most comfortable beds.
C.By finding ways to make people feel gravity.
D.By making people jump higher in rooms.
13.What does the underlined word “they” refer to
A.The passengers. B.The rooms. C.The workers. D.The games.
14.What CANNOT we learn about the space hotel

C.Room prices don’t come out. D.It will buy cruise tickets for guests.
15.What’s the main idea of the passage
A.A pilot will build a space hotel in the near future.
B.A company has many difficulties in building a hotel.
C.Visitors are dreaming of travelling to space in the near future.
D.It will be easy and cheap for visitors to travel to space in the future.

Many students study by reading their notes and textbooks over and over again. But studies show there are more effective ways to help you study smarter.
16 Many students know what they are expected to do. Yet many often fail to plan ahead. So they need first to set a reachable target. Break it into pieces and make them happen one by one. It may seem strange at first. But after two weeks or more, it becomes a normal thing.
Don’t just reread. 17 Rereading is like looking at the answer to a puzzle, rather than doing it yourself. It looks like it makes sense. But until you try it yourself, you don’t really know if you understand it.
Find examples. Abstract concepts can be hard to understand. It tends to be far easier to form a mental image if you have a concrete example of something. 18 On its own, that concept might be hard to remember. But if you think about a lemon or vinegar, it becomes easier!
Dig deeper. It’s hard to remember countless facts and figures if you don’t push further. Ask why things are a certain way. How did they come about Why do they matter Psychologists call this elaboration(深究). It’s taking class material and asking many how and why questions about it. 19
Practice more. Musicians practice their instruments. Athletes practice sports skills. 20 In a study, students took practice tests over several weeks. On the final test, they scored more than a full letter grade better, on average, than did students who studied the way they normally had.
As a teen, Cynthia Nebel studied by reading her textbooks, worksheets and notebooks. “Over and over and over again,” recalls this psychologist at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. Now, she adds, “we know that’s one of the most common bad study skills that students have.”
A.Make a budget and save it.
B.Make a plan and stick to it.
C.The same should go for learning.
D.However, not all can apply to students.
E.In other words, don’t just accept facts at face value.
F.Sadly, reading books and notes repeatedly is common for many students.
G.For instance, sour foods usually taste that way because they contain an acid.
