We were locked in a darkness room, Ned tried to escape from the submarine. I remembered that unforgettable day. When morning came, we saw the monster behind us. After fighting against it, Conseil, Ned and I were thrown into the sea and stood on the monster. We thought it was a giant narwhal. In fact, it was a submarine. A few seconds later, eight men came out and pulled us into this room on the submarine.
Suddenly, two men entered. The tall man was Captain Nemo. He even knew everything we did with him. He asked us to promise not to escape. Finally, we reached an agreement.
Captain Nemo showed me the art gallery with many paintings by famous artists and a museum that contained many thousands of wonderful shells, pearls and other treasures from the sea. I had never seen such a good museum. “What a wonderful ship, it must have cost a fortune.” “That's true!” he replied. “I love it as if it were my child.”
A few days later, Captain Nemo invited me and my friends to go hunting with him in the forests of Crespo Island. About one hundred savages followed us and tried to come into the ship. Captain Nemo didn't worry about them. When they put their hand on the rail, they all fell back and ran away. Captain Nemo had put electricity into the rail. Anybody who touched it would receive an electric shock.
One day, he asked me to follow him to another room. A man lay on a bed with a very bad head wound.
I looked at it. “What happened ” Captain Nemo answered, “Something broke in the engine. A heavy piece of metal hit his head.” “He is going to die soon”I said. “Nothing can save him.” Tears filled Captain Nemo’s eyes, and he asked me to leave.
We sailed through a sea of milk and huge armies of shell sand, sometimes large crowds of sharks. I realized that I did not really want to escape.

Sometimes there’s nothing better than the “rush” you feel when you’re going at high speeds. Or the wonder of going somewhere new and different, climbing a mountain or enjoying extreme sports like snowboarding. These are the adventures we “thrill seekers(寻找刺激的人)” live for. But sometimes we also need to know when to slow down.
Recently, I went quad biking(摩托车越野), or ATV driving, on a track in the mountains. After a brief instructional exercise and what seemed like lots of waiting, we put on our helmets(头盔), started our engines and got onto the track. The sound of the engine was exciting. As I got more confident, I couldn’t help overtaking other drivers whenever I got the chance. Finally, the way forward opened up and I went ahead of the others. I turned toward a small hill and raced down. As I soon found out, this was a big mistake. My ATV turned over at full speed.
Luckily, I knew it was happening and pushed myself out of the way of the falling ATV. If I had not, I probably would have broken my leg beneath the weight of the ATV or even lost it. I might have even broken my neck. It ended up turning out fine, apart from some soreness(疼痛) in my chest for a week or so. This was a surprise for my friend. After seeing the accident, he said to me, “Dude, I thought you were dead.” Perhaps I could have died, if I hadn't been lucky that day.
That event was one I'll always remember for the adventure and the near-death experience. It's good to be adventurous, but it's still really important to be wise and careful too. So, go on adventures, but be smart while you’re on them!
What did the author do before starting his quad biking adventure
A. He checked his ATV again and again. B. He shared his experience with other drivers.
C. He received some instruction and waited. D. He made a personal survey of the track.
59. What does the underlined word “overtaking” in paragraph 2 most likely mean

C. He broke his neck and leg. D. He lost control of his ATV.
61. What’s the main message the author wants to convey in the text
A. Accidents are a natural part of adventures. B. It is fun to live an adventurous life.
C. Never be afraid of failure in life. D. Keep safety in mind while on an adventure.

China and India are leaders in improving global tree cover, a new study based on NASA research showed.
They took a 31.8 percent part together of the total global new leaf area between 2000 and 2017. China played a major role, adding 25 percent to this increase, and India added 6.8 percent, followed by Canada and Russia.
The study in the Nature Sustainability journal shows that more than 5.5 million square kilometers of green leaf area was added globally. Since 2000, there has been a 5 percent increase in global green cover, it said.
“The greening over the last twenty years shows an increase in leaf area on plants and trees which is as large as the area of the entire Amazon rainforest,” Chi Chen, a Boston University researcher and leader of the study told Nature Sustainability. Large plantation activities to protect forests in China contributed nearly 42 percent to the country’s green cover, and agriculture (农业) added another 32 percent. In India, 82 percent of the increase in leaf area was because of agriculture.
“China and India take up one-third of the greening, but hold only nine percent of the planet’s land area covered in green plants,” Chi Chen told NASA Earth Observatory. “That is a surprising finding, considering the land degradation (退化) in countries with large populations.”
Boston University’s research team first detected an increase in global green cover in the 1990s but were unsure what contributed to the increase. Finally, with the help of NASA’s Terra and Aqua satellites research, they managed to find out the increase in leaf cover from different areas and places.
Which country contributed to the largest increase in the global new leaf area
China. B. India. C. Russia. D. Canada.
63. For what purpose did the author mention the Amazon rainforest
A. To show the major role of rainforest. B. To explain the reason for developing agriculture.
C. To describe the difficulty in protecting forests. D. To show the great increase in global green cover.
64. What did Chi Chen think of the new finding
A. Worrying. B. Interesting. C. Unexpected. D. Meaningless.
65. What does the underlined word “detected” probably mean
A. Imagined. B. Discovered. C. Studied. D. Doubted.

六、回答问题(共5小题,每小题2分,计10分)
阅读下列短文,根据短文内容回答问题,答案不超过10个词。
At seventeen minutes past four in the afternoon, while the passengers were in the main hall taking their lunch, a slight blow was felt on the Scotia (斯科舍号船), on the quarter a little behind the port wheel.
The Scotia had not run into something: something had run into it, and a cutting or sharp object rather than a blunt (不锋利的) one. The blow seemed so slight that nobody on board would have worried but for the shout of the hold—workers who rushed up on to the deck (甲板) .
“We’re sinking (下沉)! We’re sinking!”
At first the passengers were quite afraid—but Captain Anderson quickly reassured (宽慰) them. In fact, the danger could not come at once. The Scotia, divided into seven parts, was sure to resist any leak with impunity.
Captain Anderson headed at once for the hold. He noticed that the fifth part had flooded; and the speed of the flooding proved that the hole was a quite big one. Very luckily, the boilers were not in this compartment, for the fires would have gone out at once.
Captain Anderson had the engines stopped at once, while one of the sailors dived to assess the damage (损坏). Shortly afterwards, the existence of a two-metre hole in the hull was confirmed. Such damage could not be repaired and the Scotia, its wheels half underwater, had to continue its journey in the same state. It was 300 miles from Cape Clear, and was three days late when it sailed into the company docks, having greatly worried Liverpool.
The engineers then carried out an inspection (检查) of the Scotia, which was in dry dock.
They couldn’t believe their eyes. Two and a half meters below the water-line appeared a neat hole in the form of an isosceles triangle (等腰三角形). The break in the board was perfectly clean, and could not have been cut with greater precision.
Where did the story take place, in the ocean or on land
How did the passengers feel at first
Which part of the boat was flooded according to the story
Who carried out the inspection of the Scotia
What do you think of Captain Anderson
