四、阅读理解
Do you agree with cloning our pets
First, I think cloning pets is good for the pets' owners. Every pet will die one day after some time. It can't live with its owner for their whole life because a human's life is much longer. When it dies, the owner will feel very sad. But then, if there is a cloned pet, the owner will be very happy. I think cloning pets is an creative way to promote (促进) human and animal relationships, which is especially important for children and old people. Pets can bring them much joy.—Kuan Jialin, 13
I think cloning isn't as good as we might think. As we know, cloned animals can't live normal lives like other animals because their lives are shorter. They come into this world, but they can't enjoy their rights to a long life, which is unfair to them. Additionally, cloning affects DNA, which will lead to more genetic (基因的) similarities among pets. All pets will start to look the same and their owners won't be able to part them. This could cause problems.—Liu Xiaoxiao, 13
First, people can help endangered animals survive by cloning them. For example, the Pyrenees goat (比利牛斯山羊) is disappearing. But cloning can help it survive. Cloning can also allow us to make large numbers of animals that can provide us with meat, such as cattle, sheep and pigs. In addition, scientists are looking for new sources of organs for organ transplants (器官移植). I believe this will happen in the near future and save people's lives.—Lin Yaneyane, 13
Cloning is already very expensive. A lot of people can't afford it. There are also health problems. The cloned sheep Dolly had a genetic defect (遗传缺陷) and suffered from a serious lung disease. This means that cloned pets may be at a greater risk of dying earlier than normal pets. What's more, pets can be cloned, but their appearance, personality and even memory are all influenced by their environment outside. We should just cherish (珍惜)the pets we have now.—Sun Ke, 13
1. What does Kuan Jialin think about cloning pets
A. Cloned animals' lives are shorter.
B. Cloning is already very expensive.
C. Cloning can help endangered animals survive.
D. An creative way to promote human and animal relationships.
2. _____ thinks that cloned animals can provide new sources of organs for organ transplants.
A. Kuan Jialin B. Lin Yangyang C. Liu Xiaoxiao D. Sun Ke
3. Sun Ke reminds us _____.
A. cloning affects DNA B. to cherish the pets we have now
C. cloned animals can provide us with meat D. pets can bring children and old people much joy
