a ten-pound note一张10英镑的钞票。“基数词+连字符+可数名词单数”可以构成新的合成词，当形容词用，在句中作定语。再如：
a five-star hotel 五星级酒店 a six-year-old boy 一个六岁男孩儿
a ten-minute walk 一段10分钟的路程 a five-year plan 一个五年计划
本句中的change是动词，意为“兑换”，change还可以作名词，意为“零钱”，如课文中的 Haven’t you got any small change , I’ve got no small change, I’m afraid.等。
<3> I’ve got no small change, I’m afraid. 恐怕我没有零钱。
no small change 没有零钱，“no+不可数名词/ 可数名词复数”等同于“not any+不可数名词/ 可数名词复数”。如：
I’ve got no spare cash. = I haven’t got any spare cash. 我手头没有多余的现金。
He has got no friends.= He hasn’t got any friends. 他还没有交到朋友。
I’m afraid在句中作插入语，一般用逗号与前面的句子隔开。再如：
You are wrong, I’m afraid. 恐怕你错了。
He will be late, I’m afraid. 恐怕他要迟到了。
<4> I’ll ask some of the passengers. 我来问问其他乘客。
some of the passengers 其他乘客，“some of +不可数名词/ 可数名词复数”，表示“......中的一些”。如：
We showed them some of our photos. 我们给他们看了我们的一些照片。
He will return some of the money. 他将归还一部分钱。
<5> I haven’t got any either.
either用于否定句中，表示“也（不）......”。
Pete can't go and I can't either. 皮特不能去，我也不能。
I don't like the film, and she doesn't either. 我不喜欢这部电影，她也不喜欢。
either 还有“(两者中的)任何一个”的意思，一般用于肯定句中。
You can park on either side of the street. 这条街两边都可停车。
You may take either of the two. 你可以从两个中间挑任何一个。
either...or... （对两事物的选择）要么…要么，不是…就是，或者…或者
Well, I think she's either Japanese or Korean.嗯，我看她不是日本人就是韩国人。
He must be either mad or drunk. 他要么是疯了，要么是喝醉了。
<6> I’m afraid I can’t. 恐怕不能。
本句 I can’t后省略了change this ten-pound note.
I’m afraid 后接宾语从句，意为“很抱歉，很遗憾，恐怕”，用以道歉或婉转地提出异议。如：
I'm afraid I've let the garden go this year. 恐怕我今年没有照看好园子。
I'm afraid I'm not quite with you. 对不起，我不太懂你的意思。
<7> Neither can I. 我也不能。
当有人说了一句否定意义的话，其否定的内容也适用于你或另外的人或事时，可以采用这种简略的句式。但这种句式需要用倒装语序，即“Neither + 助动词/ 情态动词/ 系动词+ 主语.”。如：
He doesn't like rock music.他不喜欢摇滚音乐
Neither do I. 我也不喜欢。
He can't answer this question, neither can she. 他不能回答这个问题，她也不能。
<8> None of our passengers can change this note. 我们的乘客中没有没人能换这张钞票。
none of... 表示“（三个以上）都没有......”，后面可以跟可数名词或不可数名词。
与不可数名词连用时，动词用单数；与复数名词、代词或单数集合名词连用时，动词用单数或复数均可。如：
None of the work is done. 那些工作全都没做。
None of the trains is/are going to London.这些列车都不去伦敦。
None of her family has/have been to college. 她的一家谁都没上过大学。
<9> So have I. 我也有。
当有人说了一句肯定意义的话，其否定的内容也适用于你或另外的人或事时，可以采用这种简略的句式。但这种句式需要用倒装语序，即“So+ 助动词/ 情态动词/ 系动词+ 主语.”。如：
Tom can speak English and French. 汤姆会说英语和法语。
So can I. 我也会。

so与neither引导的倒装句
表示赞同时，英语中可用so, neither引导的倒装句来避免和前句话的内容重复。其主语与前一句的主语不同，但时态应保持一致。若前一句是肯定的，用so来引导；若是否定的则用neither。
