Xishuangbanna, one of the eight autonomous prefectures (自治州) in Southwest China’s Yunnan province, has made it to the list of Lonely Planet’s top 10 regions to visit in 2022.
With the China-Laos railway scheduled to open on December 2, 2021, trips to Xishuangbanna Dai autonomous prefecture would be more accessible. Along with neighboring Myanmar and Laos, the exotic region is best known for dense tropical rainforest and distinct ethnic culture.
A paradise for plants and animals
Xishuangbanna boasts the most intact tropical ecosystem in China, which harbors a quarter of the country’s animal species and one sixth of plants. There are quite a few spots to get a glimpse of this animal and plant paradise, and Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) always comes first.
XTBG, situated in the south of the province, is not only the country’s top level tourist attraction, but also a research institution affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Home to over 13,000 species of plants, it is one of the largest tropical botanical gardens in the country.
The site is divided into two areas: one in the east, and the other in the west. The western area has 20 small botanical gardens that contain a wide variety of peculiar plants. The eastern area is three times bigger than the other, featuring dense tropical rainforests and giant waterfalls.
If tropical plants are not enough, the Wild Elephant Valley would be a great option for animal lovers. The nature reserve is the only place in China to observe Asian elephants at close quarters and it shelters other rare wild animals, too.
Dai ethnic culture
The Dai ethnic group has lived in Xishuangbanna for centuries, accounting for around 30 percent of the region’s population. A visit to the tropical paradise would never be complete without experiencing the local culture.
Manting Park is the oldest park in the region that dates back 1,300 years, which is also one of the main venues for the annual Water Splashing Festival (WSF), the most important traditional occasion for the Dai people to welcome the New Year.
The festival usually falls in mid-April and involves three days of festive celebrations, including religious rituals, water splashing, boat racing and releasing sky lanterns.
1. What makes trips to Xishuangbanna easier
A. That Xishuangbanna is a paradise for plants and animals.
B. That Xishuangbanna is one of the eight autonomous prefectures.
C. That The China-Laos railway is scheduled to open on December 2, 2021.
D. That Xishuangbanna features dense tropical rainforests and giant waterfalls.
2. Where is Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) located
A. In the east of Yunnan province. B. In the west of Yunnan province.
C. In the south of Yunnan province. D. In the north of Yunnan province.
3. What can we learn about the annual Water Splashing Festival
A. Manting Park is the only venue for the annual WSF.
B. Celebrating WSF is of vital importance for Dai people.
C. Only the Dai ethnic group can celebrate the annual WSF.
D. A visit to XTBG would be perfect without experiencing the annual WSF.

Chinese mooncake is the representative food of the Mid-Autumn Festival. It is a kind of round cookie with various fillings and different artistic patterns on the surface.
In Chinese culture, roundness symbolizes completeness and togetherness. The mooncake is not just a food. It’s a cultural tradition deep in Chinese people’s hearts, symbolizing a spiritual feeling. At Mid-Autumn Festival, people eat mooncakes together with family, and present mooncakes to relatives or friends to express love and best wishes.
As early as the Shang and Zhou dynasties in what today are Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces in east China, there was a kind of “Taishi cake” thick at the center and thin at the edge, which was the origin of the mooncake. In the Han Dynasty, sesame (芝麻) and walnuts were introduced into China, and round cookies filled with these foods appeared. It was not until the Tang Dynasty that the name “mooncake” was used for the first time. In the Northern Song Dynasty, mooncakes got popular in the royal palace. In the Ming Dynasty, the custom of eating these cookies during the Mid-Autumn Festival became popular.
Mooncakes vary according to different regional styles and tastes. Cantonese-style mooncakes are known for their sweetness. Suzhou-style mooncakes have existed for more than a thousand years. They have soft layers of dough (面团) and lots of sugar and lard, making them available in sweet or salty tastes. Beijing-style mooncakes use sweetness delicately and are decorated well. Chaoshan-style mooncakes are usually larger than other mooncakes with common fillings of red bean paste and potato paste.
Most mooncakes contain high amounts of sugar and oil, which are not healthy. To decrease the harmfulness that high fat and calories bring to our body, some foods are recommended to eat together with mooncakes, including tea, sour fruit like grapes, and wine. They help digest and take away fat in our body. Also, do not eat too much at one time.
4. What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. The features of moon cakes. B. The history of the moon cakes.
C. The customs of the moon cakes. D. The meaning behind moon cakes.
5. When was the name “mooncake” used for the first time
A. In the Han Dynasty. B. In the Tang Dynasty.

The Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), China’s leading aircraft maker, created the country’s first fully solar-powered drone (无人机). The large drone, Qimingxing 50, or Morning Star 50, took off at 5:50 pm on September 3rd, 2022, from an airport in Yulin of Shanxi Province and stayed in the air for 26 minutes before landing on the same runway. AVIC said that all systems of the unmanned plane functioned well on its first flight.
Powered by six electric motors with solar batteries, the drone is designed to conduct long-time operations in near space. Near space is that part of Earth’s atmosphere at altitudes of 20 to 100 kilometers. It is above the top altitudes of commercial airliners but below orbiting satellites.
Qimingxing 50, also called “quasi-satellite”, features high operational efficiency and eco-friendliness and will be tasked with high-altitude reconnaissance (侦察), forestry fire monitoring, atmospheric environmental inspection, aerial mapping, communication signal relay and other operations.
“Thanks to its capability to conduct very long endurance flights in near space, the drone can essentially become a substitute for satellites,” a Chinese aerospace expert said. Satellite services are not always available due to the limited number of satellites and relatively fixed schedules of overhead passes. In time-sensitive missions, near-space drones can offset these disadvantages, the expert said, noting that satellite services could also be damaged in wartime, so near-space drones could replace them in this occasion.
The successful first flight of the Qimingxing-50 lays a solid foundation for the development of key technologies in the country’s new energy field, the composite (复合的) material field, which will enhance China’s ability to perform tasks in near space and over far oceans. AVIC will seize the opportunity to increase investment and speed up the development of large solar-powered unmanned aircraft.

In a weightless, microgravity (微重力) environment like space, how can someone with sight or mobility problems navigate (航行) on the space station As scientists continue to push the boundaries of spaceflight and the possibility of human life on other planets, how can we build space infrastructure (基础设施) friendly to all humans
The Mission AstroAccess project aims to answer these questions, starting with a historic parabolic (抛物线的) flight that took off from Long Bench on Oct. 17, 2021. A group of 12 disabled scientists, students, athletes, and artists launched into a zero-gravity environment as a first step. To get a better idea of what is needed for more inclusive (包容的) space travel, AstroAccess plans to conduct a series of follow-on parabolic flights after the first launch. On these flights, a plane flies up to an altitude of around 32,000 feet and then begins a descent (下降) at about 4 miles per second. This quick descent creates a microgravity, weightless effect lasting roughly 30 seconds. Afterwards, the plane climbs back up to a stable altitude, and repeats the process again.
The 12 AstroAccess ambassadors selected for this first microgravity flight included four blind or low-vision ambassadors; two deaf or hard-of-hearing ambassadors; and six with mobility disabilities, all carrying out various tasks in the weightless environment. One of the challenges was seeing whether all members could perform basic safety and operational tasks. The crew also tested whether sound beacons (声信标) could be used for blind members to detect themselves. They are also investigating how American Sign Language will be impacted by microgravity.
“My whole career goal is to make everybody able to go to outer space, where you don’t have to be a crazy trained astronaut with perfect physical abilities and health to visit outer space,” said Brenda Williamson, head of the AstroAccess logistics committee. “I grew up on Star Trek, so the idea of exploration is really important.”
12. How is the Mission AstroAccess project carried out
A. By building space infrastructure. B. By starting with a parabolic flight.
C. By navigating on the space station. D. By involving all of us in spaceflight.
13. Which activity does all ambassadors experience in the weightless environment
A. Use sound beacons. B. Go to space station.
C. Carry out various tasks. D. Use American Sign Language.
14. What is the passage mainly about
A. The exploration to outer space. B. An idea of more inclusive space travel.
C. 12 ambassadors trained to be astronauts. D. Efforts to make all of us able to go to outer space.
15. How does Brenda Williamson find the project
A. It is significant. B. It is rewarding. C. It is unrealistic. D. It is unexpected

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
A person with self-confidence generally thinks positively. Someone who lacks self-confidence, however, is less likely to feel that they can achieve their goals. The good news is that self-confidence is something you can improve!
Develop a Good Attitude
Your negative thoughts might sound like this: “I can’t do that,” “I will surely fail.” _______16_______ When you notice your negative thoughts, turn them around to positive thoughts. For example, you can talk to yourself like this: “I am going to try it,” “I can be successful if I work at it.” Start with just a few positive thoughts a day.
Set small and achievable goals
_______17_______ Instead of doing that, you’d better set small goals to make the larger goal achievable. Imagine you wish to run a marathon, but are worried you would not be able to achieve this goal. Do not go out and try to run 26 miles on the first day of training. Begin where you are.
Seek to help others
When you know you’re making a positive difference in other people’s lives, you’ll know that you are a positive force in the world — which will boost your self-confidence. _______18_______ For example, you can volunteer at your local library or help your little sister learn to read. The act of helping will not only benefit others, but also build your confidence.
_______19_______
Gaining self-confidence does not happen overnight. It takes time and effort. If you try something and fail in it, don’t give up. Instead, see what lessons you can learn from it. Not succeeding in what you aim the first time is an opportunity to learn more about yourself. _______20_______
A. Be patient with yourself
B. Be brave to try new things
C. Often, people set unrealistic goals, and never get started.
D. Find a way to make helping others a part of your weekly routine.
E. Self-confidence needs to be developed and grown, a bit at a time.
F. Make a list of small goals, which will help you achieve larger goals.
G. This inner voice will hold you back from achieving greater self-confidence.
【答案】16. G 17. C 18. D 19. A 20. E
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了一些方法以帮助我们提高自信。
【16题详解】
根据空前内容“Your negative thoughts might sound like this: “I can’t do that,” “I will surely fail.”(你的消极想法可能听起来像这样:“我做不到”,“我肯定会失败的。”)”可知,空前主要讲述了自己内心的消极想法。选项G“This inner voice will hold you back from achieving greater self-confidence.(这种内心的声音会阻碍你获得更大的自信)”中的“This inner voice”指的正是上文提到的““I can’t do that,” “I will surely fail.””,且这种内心的声音是消极的想法,会阻碍自己获得自信。故选G。
【17题详解】
根据空后的“Instead of doing that, you’d better set small goals to make the larger goal achievable.(与其这样做,不如设定小目标,让大目标更容易实现)”中的“instead of doing that”可推断出,空处和下文的“you’d better set small goals to make the larger goal achievable.”内容相反。选项C“Often, people set unrealistic goals, and never get started.(通常,人们设定不切实际的目标,却从不开始)”中的“unrealistic goals”和下文的“small goals”正相反。故选C。
【18题详解】
根据空前内容“When you know you’re making a positive difference in other people’s lives, you’ll know that you are a positive force in the world — which will boost your self-confidence.(当你知道你正在给别人的生活带来积极的影响时,你就会知道你是世界上一股积极的力量——这将增强你的自信)”可知,上文主要讲述的是要帮助他人从而增强自信。选项D“Find a way to make helping others a part of your weekly routine.(想办法让帮助别人成为你每周例行公事的一部分)”与上文内容一致,指的是帮助别人;同时与下文所举例子“For example, you can volunteer at your local library or help your little sister learn to read. The act of helping will not only benefit others, but also build your confidence.(例如,你可以在当地图书馆做志愿者,或者帮助你的小妹妹学习阅读。帮助他人的行为不仅会使他人受益,还会建立你的信心)”保持一致。故选D。
【19题详解】
空处为小标题,为本段主要内容。根据本段内容“Gaining self-confidence does not happen overnight. It takes time and effort. If you try something and fail in it, don’t give up. Instead, see what lessons you can learn from it.(获得自信不是一朝一夕的事。这需要时间和精力。如果你尝试了一件事却失败了,不要放弃)”可知,获得自信需要时间和精力,即便失败也不要放弃。由此可知,本段主要是建议读者要有耐心。选项A“Be patient with yourself(对自己要有耐心)”与下文内容一致。故选A。
【20题详解】
根据上文内容“Gaining self-confidence does not happen overnight. It takes time and effort. If you try something and fail in it, don’t give up. Instead, see what lessons you can learn from it. Not succeeding in what you aim the first time is an opportunity to learn more about yourself.(获得自信不是一朝一夕的事。这需要时间和精力。如果你尝试了一件事却失败了,不要放弃。相反,看看你能从中学到什么。第一次没有实现你的目标是一个更多地了解自己的机会。)”可知,本段主要讲述的是获得自信需要时间和精力,而且一次失败可以让我们更好地了解自己,从而逐渐获得自信。选项E“Self-confidence needs to be developed and grown, a bit at a time.(自信需要培养和成长,一次一点)”与上文内容一致,指的是自信的培养需要时间和精力,并通过一次次的失败获得自信。故选E。

School life in the UK is full of challenges, but for those who have a positive attitude, opportunity lies in each challenge. To fully realize my potential, I took advantage of our school resources, managed my time well and developed good habits. Of equal importance is setting clear goals that can be achieved. Therefore, I set goals based on my abilities and skills. Although I found achieving goals quite difficult in the beginning, I stuck to it and made a continuous effort.

A. In the east of Yunnan province. B. In the west of Yunnan province.
C. In the south of Yunnan province. D. In the north of Yunnan province.

A. They contain less sugar. B. They are generally larger in size.
C. They have a much longer history. D. They feature fine decorative patterns.
7. What is the purpose of the last paragraph
A. To stress the importance of a healthy diet. B. To call on people to value traditional culture.
C. To tell people how to eat mooncakes healthily. D. To recommend some new flavors of mooncakes.

8. What do we know about Qimingxing 50
A. It is China’s first fully solar-powered drone.

b. high-altitude reconnaissance
c. at altitudes of 20 to 100 meters
d. atmospheric environmental inspection
A. a, b, c B. b, c, d C. a, c, d D. a, b, d
10. What does the underlined word “foundation” mean in the last paragraph
A. strength. B. basis. C. advantage. D. inspiration.

“My whole career goal is to make everybody able to go to outer space where you don’t have to be a crazy trained astronaut with perfect physical abilities and health to visit outer space,” said Brenda Williamson, head of the AstroAccess logistics committee. “I grew up on Star Trek, so the idea of exploration is really important.”

第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
