As a child, I’d sit through movies I loved, dreaming of someday having the ability to create films, but becoming a screenwriter seemed like building a spaceship and flying to Mars.
After I took my first step at writing by submitting a poem to a talent show at my junior high school, I began to read more and tried writing. Walking into bookstores and libraries, I would look at the thousands of boob and ask myself, “Are all these people smarter than me, or did they just try harder ” So, I kept reading and maintained a journal of quotes. As I struggled to develop the necessary skills, I tried many unrelated occupations. My writing improved, but the wall within me was too strong to believe I could make a living at it.
The company I worked in went out of business, forcing me to choose between getting another job I didn’t like and starling a career as a writer The solution was copyediting (审稿). It wasn't writing, but I loved it. The composer that I worked with and I shared a desire to write for films. We wrote scripts(脚本) together. Then we created a production company—Temple Gate Films—with a third partner.
There were a thousand reasons to quit along the way, but I didn't. The alternatives were unbearable, never knowing what it feels like to fully master my greatest passion. So, I let myself rest after disappointments, but I always got back. Constantly stepping outside of one's comfort zone pays off eventually. A few weeks ago, my production company received funding for our first feature film. I will finally sit in a movie theater and see actors performing my dialogues. It took eight years, but I did it, achieving my goals not only by walking through fear repeatedly but accepting it as a doorway to knowledge and achievement.

Natural gas, long seen as a cleaner alternative to coal, can be just as harmful to the climate, a new study has concluded, unless companies can cut the leaks, since a small gas leak may be as big a driver of climate change as coal. The leak comes from drill sites, processing plants and the pipes that transport it into power stations or homes and kitchens.
Even if gas leaks little, it’s as bad as coal, said Deborah, the lead researcher and an environmental policy expert. “It can’t be considered a good bridge, or substitute.”
The study, which involved researchers from Harvard and Duke Universities and NASA and is set to be published next week in a journal, suspects the idea that natural gas is a suitable fuel to a future powered entirely by renewables, like solar and wind.
The findings throw up difficult questions about how much more money the nations should invest in gas to stop global warming. The $370 billion Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), passed in the LS last year and designed to move the country away from fossil fuels toward renewables, includes the application of some forms of natural gas.
When power companies generate electricity by burning natural gas instead of coal, they emit(释放) only half the amount of planet-warming carbon dioxide. But natural gas, made up mostly of methane(甲烷),is more planet-warming when it escapes unburned into the air. The latest study compares the entire life cycle emissions of natural gas and coal, from mining the fuel to distributing and burning it, looking at all of their energy uses. Gas, in particular, is used broadly as an energy source for fuel, steam, heat and power.
Focusing on methane leaks from gas as a way to control carbon emissions means the world might mitigate some short-term warming and slow warming more immediately, though we still face a dangerous rise in average temperatures decades in the future.
28、What does the study conclude about natural gas
A. It is a natural protection of the climate.
B. It can be sustainable like solar energy.
C. It may not be a good substitute for coal,
D. Much of it escapes unburned into the air.
29、What was the IRA aimed to do
A. To help look for clean fossil fuels.
B. To reduce the leak of natural gas.
C. To get financial aid for clean energy.
D. To promote the use of renewables.
30、What's the problem with using natural gas
A.It causes pollution during the storage.
B.It causes bad pollution if let out unburned.
C.It gives out harmful methane when burning.
D.It makes future temperatures keep rising.
31、Which can replace the underlined word "mitigate" in paragraph 6

Using the military and health records of more than a million Swedish conscripts(应征入伍者),recent research revealed that keeping cardiorespiratory(心肺的) fitness in their late teens and early twenties can cut the risk of developing nine types of cancer by 40% when older. The research team, from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, said, "These results could be used to further strengthen the promotion of interventions aimed at increasing fitness in youth."
Almost a third of people aged 16 to 24 in England aren't physically active, without meeting guidelines of at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity a week including walking, riding a bike and dancing.
Cardiorespiratory fitness(CRF) measures how well the heart, lungs and linked systems work to get oxygen to muscles during sustained activities. The conscripts, aged between 16 and 25, had tests of CRF on exercise bikes between 1968 and 2005. The researchers used Swedish health data to see who went on to have cancer diagnosed during an average follow-up of 33 years. The study found that increasing fitness was beneficial, regardless of body weight. However, they also found that higher fitness was linked to a higher risk of skin cancer. The researchers said those trends might be driven by exposure to sunlight. Studies presented this year linked higher rates of physical activity to lower rates of post-cancer problems.
The study was observational and so cannot prove the higher fitness caused the lower rates of cancer. The researchers also cautioned that they had no access to full data on factors such as diet, alcohol intake and smoking and so couldn't fully account for those.
Dr. Claire Knight, of Cancer Research UK, said, "The authority recommends 150 minutes of activity a week, but it's fine to build up activity over time and there are lots of ways to be more active. You don't need to run a marathon or join a gym. Anything that gets you warmer and slightly out of breath and your heart beating faster counts."
32、What's the significance of the recent research findings
A.They illustrate the importance of good diet.
B.They show how our health declines with age.
C.They give ways to boost health of the young.
D.They stress the importance of general health.
33、How does CRF protect the body
A.It measures the functions of body systems.
B.It provides oxygen to the muscles at work.
C.It increases the length of physical activities.
D.It controls the spread of cancer in the body.
34、What is the limit of the study
A.It didn't observe available data thoroughly.
B.It connected sunlight exposure with cancer,
C.It failed to offer the ideal time for exercise.
D.It didn't include other health-related factors.
35、Which can be a suitable title for the text
A.Fitness at Youth Can Last a Lifetime
B.Active Youth Cuts Later Cancer Risks
C.Proper CRF Can Rid Us of Cancer
D.Physical Activities Help the Lung

“Hello, Mrs. Briggs. It's so nice of you to speak to the juniors in my business class. I try to prepare them for the world outside of high school, which they'll soon be entering," Ms. Johnson said, eagerly shaking my hand.
A few weeks earlier, Ms. Johnson had reached me about speaking to her class. She’d read an article in the local paper about me. She was particularly interested in my story because I m a female who started a business from the ground up. She was passionate about preparing her high-school students for the world lying ahead. She knew they’d go in many different directions after graduation. Her enthusiasm seemed to help build my own.
So I began my speech. "I’m here to speak to you today because I’m an entrepreneur. My company, Grime Fighters, was born three years ago out of a desire to work outside the home yet be home for my kids when they came home from school. It all began with a bag of cleaning rags, a pair of household gloves, and a long-time friend who asked me to start by cleaning her house. She was pleased with my work, dependability and trustworthiness. She then passed on the name of my company to her friends. Since then, Grime Fighters has grown steadily, relying strictly on word-of-mouth, which gives me a consistent and quality customers." I said, smiling at the sea of teens.
"I started alone with just myself cleaning houses. I began hiring employees as the business grew. I now have seven women who work part-time five days a week with hours that perfectly align for them to meet their kids when the school bus drops them off in the afternoon. These hours work smoothly for my employees as well as my clients,” I explained.
Feeling that I’d talked long enough, I asked, “Are there any questions, boys and girls ” At his point, a young man raised his hand and said, “I’d like to know if it's a hard job to set up your own business.”

解析:This year marks the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Sydney Opera House in Australia. In 1957, an international design competition was held for an arts centre to be built in Sydney. There were 223 entries from 28 countries. Danish architect Jorn Utzon won the competition with his design of shells that looked like sails on a boat.
Construction began on March 2, 1959 and quickly ran into trouble. The ground wasn’t suitable to hold the weight of the House and huge foundations had to be built. Mr. Utzon left the project in February 1966 before it was finished because the government wasn’t paying his bills.
The Opera House was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II in October 1973. Mr. Utzon wasn’t invited to the opening and his name wasn’t mentioned.
In 2007, the Opera House was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
