A group of swans flew down to a beach where a crow (乌鸦) was jumping around. The crow watched them with disdain (鄙视).

A woman made bread for members of her family and an extra(额外的) one for a hungry passer-by every day. She kept the extra bread on the windowsill (窗台) , for whomever would take it away easily.

That evening, there was a knock on the door. As she opened it, she was surprised to find her son standing in the doorway. His clothes were in pieces. He was hungry and weak. As he saw his mother, “Mom, it’s a miracle (奇迹)I am here. While I was but a mile away, I was so hungry that I fell down. I would have died, but just then an old hunchback passed by. He was kind enough to give me a whole bread. He said, “Your need is greater than mine!”
As the mother heard those words, her face turned pale and red. She remembered the poisoned bread that she had made that morning. If she had not burnt it in the fire, it would have been eaten by her own son and he would have lost his life.
It was then that she realized the importance of the words: “The evil you do remains with you. The good you do, comes back to you!” Do good and don’t ever stop doing good, even if it is not thanked at that time.

After wandering around in the city for a long time, Tom finally found himself standing in front of the palace. He looked through its golden gate, hoping to take a look at a real prince.
